Full Job Description

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and support our extrusion engineering operations. Reporting directly to the Director of Maintenance and Engineering, this role provides leadership, technical direction, and development to the extrusion engineering team while driving improvements in safety, quality, productivity, equipment performance, and manufacturing processes.

The Engineering Manager will oversee engineering activities supporting extrusion operations, lead process and equipment improvement initiatives, and manage assigned capital and operational projects from planning through implementation. This position works closely with Maintenance, Production, Quality, Safety, and other departments to ensure engineering initiatives support company objectives and comply with ISO 9001, EHS, quality, and safety requirements.

Full-Time Position

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Promote, support and enforce ISO 9001 standards as they apply to the Engineering department
Control and administer all activities in the Extrusions Engineering department
Directly supervises assigned engineers
Oversee the development and implementation of manufacturing processes to maintain proper product functionality as well as cost efficiency
Responsible for the development of equipment to aid in the manufacturing process
Write test plans, design and construct mechanical testing apparatus, conduct testing, analyze data with statistical validity, and write test reports
Choose, install, and validate equipment
Overall Process Improvements in extrusions
Implement preventive maintenance to reduce unplanned machine downtime
Maintain cost effective spare parts inventory
Participate in and/or lead Kaizen (continuous improvement) events
Develop and implement procedures designed to eliminate operating issues while improving product quality
Manage the team on technical best practice and establish standard policies and procedures while also mentoring and leading the employees
Set ambitious production goals aligned with company goals - communicate them to all department employees
Ensure employees receive proper training focusing and promoting Safety, Quality, and Productivity
Oversee all hiring and disciplinary decisions in accordance with company guidelines
Capture and track data as required for reporting purposes
People management and budgetary/cost reporting
Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Abilities:

Knowledge of ISO 9001 elements and understanding of their applicability to the Engineering Department
Strong Analytical, Problem Solving, Delegation, Conflict Resolution, Motivational and Team Building skills
Excellent Interpersonal, Communication, Time Management and Self-Motivation skills
Proficient use of Microsoft office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project & Outlook)
Solutions oriented and analytical
Technical engineering and design skills
Strong attention to detail, prioritization, strong sense of urgency and organization skills
Display strong design capabilities, leadership experience and clear communications skills to lead projects
Demonstrated communication, organization and project management skills
Processing Technology: Experience in chemical or energetic materials processing. Melt/pour, mix/cast/cure, extrusion, consolidation pressing, milling, drilling, grinding, assembly, test, and packaging, or other related processing or manufacturing experience
Mechanical Technology: materials selection, simple stress and strain analysis, jig and fixture design, gage design, and simple machine design
Control technology, including simplistic pneumatic and hydraulic control systems
Communication Experience: Assembly and detailed drawings, machine specifications, test plans and reporting, project planning, capital expenditure proposals, standard operating procedures, and customer correspondence on technical issue

Job Requirements

Ability to perform essential duties of job description
Experience working with programmable machines and running different types of machines; or a combination of education and experience providing equivalent knowledge
Experience in a Lean manufacturing environment
Experience in a continuous process such as aluminum extrusion and production
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering
Experience in a manufacturing engineering role, experience with composite or plastic molding processes is a plus
3+ years of process engineering experience required
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work in a complex fast-paced manufacturing environment, managing multiple priorities
Experience leading/supervising small teams
Process troubleshooting; Problem solving; Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience required
Extensive experience working with Allen Bradley PLC

Main Skills:

B.S. in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, or similar) from an accredited program
5+ years experience working in industrial engineering/maintenance
Experienced with AC & DC electrical systems up to 480 volts
Experienced with Allen Bradley PLCs
Experienced with RsLogix 5000, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View Studio
Experienced with AC Drives and motor controls.
Experienced with Ethernet/IP networking.
Knowledge of AutoCAD Electrical.
Familiarity with industrial safety and NFPA 70E a plus
Project management experience.

Work Environment:

Duties are performed in a loud and uncontrolled environment (warehouse setting) subject to extreme temperatures.
