Supervises: All TLC Learning Center staff and volunteers
Employment Status: Full-Time, Exempt (as determined by applicable wage and hour laws)
Program Capacity: Licensed year-round childcare and learning center serving up to 140 children ages 6 weeks through school age
Position Summary
The Director of TLC Learning Center serves as the chief administrative and operational leader of the Center and is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, developmentally appropriate childcare and educational services in accordance with Idaho licensing regulations, Board policies, and the mission of TLC Learning Center. The Director oversees all aspects of program operations including administration, staffing, curriculum oversight, enrollment, budgeting, financial management, compliance, facility operations, family engagement, and community relations.
The Director operates the Center in a fiscally responsible manner while maintaining a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children, families, and staff. The Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and serves as the primary liaison between the Board, staff, families, community partners, and regulatory agencies.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Administration
- Provide overall leadership, direction, and management of the day-to-day operations of TLC Learning Center.
- Implement and enforce policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors and the Personnel Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Develop operational procedures to ensure efficient, effective, and compliant center operations.
- Maintain compliance with all applicable city, county, state, and federal regulations governing childcare programs.
- Ensure the Center remains in good standing with Idaho licensing authorities and regulatory agencies.
- Serve as the primary contact for licensing visits, inspections, and compliance monitoring.
Board Relations & Governance
- Report regularly to the Board of Directors regarding operations, staffing, enrollment, finances, licensing, and major program developments.
- Prepare written reports for Board meetings including, but not limited to:
- Enrollment updates
- Staffing updates
- Financial summaries
- Licensing status
- Program highlights
- Significant operational issues
- Consult with Board members between meetings regarding urgent matters or major decisions affecting Center operations.
- Implement Board-approved policies, goals, and strategic priorities.
Program Oversight & Curriculum
- Supervise, review, and evaluate the Center’s curriculum and educational programming.
- Ensure programs are developmentally appropriate and responsive to children’s physical, emotional, social, and cognitive needs.
- Plan, implement, and support programs designed to meet the diverse needs of enrolled children.
- Monitor classroom quality and instructional practices to ensure high standards of care and education.
Enrollment & Family Engagement
- Oversee enrollment procedures and maintain appropriate enrollment levels.
- Meet with prospective families regarding enrollment opportunities and Center policies.
- Develop and maintain supportive, professional relationships with parents/guardians.
- Address family concerns and promote positive communication between families and staff.
- Foster a family-centered environment encouraging partnership and involvement.
- Advertises as necessary to maintain appropriate enrollment levels.
Human Resources & Staff Development
- Along with Board help and input, recruit, interview, hire, and retain qualified staff.
- Provide orientation and onboarding for new employees.
- Supervise, mentor, evaluate, and support Center personnel.
- Develop and oversee a plan to keep personnel as close to the 12 point ratio guidelines as possible.
- Conduct employee performance evaluations and maintain personnel records.
- Develop corrective action plans and administer disciplinary action as appropriate.
- Terminate employment when warranted and in accordance with applicable policies and laws.
- Plan and facilitate staff meetings, in-service training, and professional development opportunities.
- Oversee staff compliance with required training and credentialing requirements.
- Administer and support participation in the Idaho STARS Professional Development System and other state training requirements.
Financial Management & Fiscal Oversight
Working collaboratively with the Board Treasurer and accounting professionals, the Director shall:
- Operate the Center in a fiscally responsible and sustainable manner.
- Establish and maintain accurate financial records for all aspects of Center operations.
- Prepare monthly financial reports and statements for Board review.
- Monitor revenues, expenditures, payroll, and budget performance.
- Ensure all financial activities comply with local, state, and federal requirements.
- Coordinate with the Center’s accounting firm regarding payroll, taxes, audits, and financial reporting.
- Prepare payroll accurately and timely.
- Pay bills and financial obligations promptly and responsibly.
- Develop and monitor annual operating budgets.
- Seek opportunities for cost savings while maintaining program quality.
Purchasing & Resource Management
- Purchase equipment, supplies, materials, and resources needed for Center operations.
- Ensure expenditures align with approved budgets and operational priorities.
- Maintain inventory systems as appropriate.
Facility Management & Safety
- Develop and oversee custodial, maintenance, and safety plans and checklists to ensure a safe, sanitary, and attractive environment.
- Ensure compliance with health, sanitation, fire safety, and licensing standards.
- Coordinate facility use and maintenance with United Methodist Church personnel and other stakeholders as applicable.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies involving children, staff, facilities, or operations.
Community Relations & Advocacy
- Present TLC Learning Center and its programs positively to families and the broader community.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with:
- Licensing agencies
- Community organizations
- Schools
- Social service agencies
- Healthcare providers
- Professional organizations
- Serve as a childcare advocate and consultant within the community.
- Promote awareness of quality early childhood education and childcare services.
Required Qualifications
- Meet all Idaho licensing requirements for childcare center directors.
- Experience in early childhood education administration or childcare program management preferred.
- Knowledge of child development principles and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Knowledge of Idaho childcare licensing regulations.
- Experience supervising staff and managing programs.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to manage budgets and financial reports.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Early Childhood Education, Education, Child Development, Business Administration, or related field.
- Experience managing nonprofit organizations or childcare centers.
- Experience with Idaho STARS Professional Development System.
- Experience with budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Experience with ProCare system.
Physical Requirements
The Director must be able to:
- Lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Move throughout classrooms and outdoor environments.
- Respond quickly to emergencies involving children.
- Sit, stand, bend, kneel, and engage actively in childcare environments.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
