Senior Electrical Designer

Location: Texas (Hybrid) Schedule: Hybrid Work Arrangement

About the Opportunity

A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Electrical Designer to support the planning, design, and delivery of critical infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex municipal and industrial facilities, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams from concept development through construction.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience designing electrical systems for water, wastewater, and industrial facilities and enjoy working in a fast-paced consulting environment.

Key Responsibilities

Lead electrical design efforts for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, lift stations, and other municipal infrastructure projects.
Develop and review:
- Single-line diagrams
- Power distribution systems
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Medium- and low-voltage electrical systems
- Standby and emergency power systems
- Lighting and grounding systems
- Raceway and cable tray layouts
Prepare electrical construction drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
Perform electrical calculations including load studies, voltage drop, short circuit, and equipment sizing.
Coordinate designs with civil, structural, mechanical, process, and instrumentation & controls teams.
Support integration of electrical systems with SCADA, PLC, instrumentation, and automation systems.
Conduct field investigations, site visits, and construction support activities.
Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings.
Participate in QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance on project deliverables.

Required Qualifications

10+ years of electrical design experience within a consulting engineering environment.
Strong experience supporting water/wastewater infrastructure projects.
Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Revit.
Experience designing:
- MCCs
- Switchgear
- VFD systems
- Backup power systems
- Medium-voltage power distribution systems
Knowledge of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and local utility standards.
Ability to independently produce complete electrical design packages.
Strong communication and project coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) licence or ability to obtain licensure.
Experience with SKM, ETAP, or similar power system modelling software.
Arc Flash study experience.
Familiarity with SCADA, PLC, and instrumentation systems.
Previous experience leading design teams and mentoring junior staff.
