Full Job Description

Job Title: Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Salary: $130,000 - $160,000 USD Annually

Position Summary

As a Licensed Geotechnical Engineer, you will lead and support the geotechnical and geological aspects of a wide range of projects. Responsibilities include project management, field investigations, engineering analyses, design recommendations, preparation and review of technical reports, construction observation, proposal development, and client communication.

You will review plans and drawings for compliance with project requirements, prepare cost estimates and proposals, monitor project schedules and budgets, resolve design and construction challenges, and provide technical guidance to clients and multidisciplinary project teams.

Primary Responsibilities

Conduct geotechnical (including forensic) and geological investigations.
Perform field inspections and testing for construction projects.
Analyze field and laboratory data and prepare geotechnical engineering reports addressing soil conditions, slope stability, foundation design, and related topics.
Collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and project stakeholders to develop practical engineering solutions.
Provide technical guidance on geotechnical and geological issues throughout all phases of a project.
Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements.
Manage projects from planning through completion.
Review construction plans and specifications.
Prepare proposals and cost estimates.
Participate in project meetings and communicate effectively with owners, designers, contractors, and regulatory authorities.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering.
Professional licensure is required, preferably as a Licensed Geotechnical Engineer (GE)
Minimum of five years of professional experience in geotechnical or geological engineering.
Strong technical knowledge of soil and rock mechanics.
Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
High attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Experience using commercial geotechnical engineering software.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Skills

Strong understanding of geotechnical and geological engineering principles and industry best practices.
Knowledge of applicable California codes and regulations, including the California Building Code, California Residential Code, and local jurisdiction requirements.
Experience with construction inspection and project management.
Ability to analyze technical data and develop practical engineering recommendations.
Proficiency with engineering software and related technical tools.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, plans, and specifications.
