Full Job Description

Human Resources Generalist

Location: Covina, California
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday through Friday, On-Site (5 days per week)
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: Human Resources Director

Position Summary

The Human Resources Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources department by providing comprehensive HR services to employees and management. This position is responsible for administering a broad range of human resources functions, including recruitment, onboarding, employee records administration, leave management, HRIS reporting, training compliance, and offboarding. The Human Resources Generalist serves as a trusted resource for employees while ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and organizational policies.

As a member of a nonprofit organization, this position contributes to fostering a positive, collaborative, and mission-driven workplace culture that supports the agency's employees and organizational goals.

Essential Job Responsibilies

Perform full-cycle Human Resources Generalist responsibilities, ensuring efficient and compliant HR operations.
Manage and process full-cycle payroll accurately and on schedule, including employee onboarding and terminations, timekeeping review, payroll adjustments, deductions, taxes, garnishments, benefits, and final pay, while ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local payroll laws and company policies.
Coordinate the recruitment process, including posting job openings, screening candidates, scheduling interviews, conducting reference checks, preparing offer letters, and facilitating the hiring process.
Manage new hire onboarding, including orientation, completion of employment documentation, HRIS data entry, I-9 verification, and personnel file maintenance.
Process employee separations, including offboarding activities, exit documentation, final paperwork, and coordination with applicable departments.
Administer employee leave programs, including federal and California leave laws (such as FMLA, CFRA, and other applicable leave programs), while maintaining accurate records and communication with employees and management.
Maintain accurate employee records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive personnel information.
Generate standard and custom HRIS reports to support workforce planning, compliance reporting, audits, and management requests.
Monitor and track employee training requirements and ensure compliance with mandatory organizational and regulatory training.
Assist with policy interpretation and provide guidance to employees and supervisors regarding HR policies and procedures.
Support compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and organizational policies.
Assist with HR projects, audits, employee engagement initiatives, and process improvements.
Collaborate with payroll and other departments to ensure accurate employee data and timely processing of personnel actions.
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
Three (3) to five (5) years of Human Resources Generalist experience.
Working knowledge of fundamental Human Resources principles, practices, and employment laws.
Experience administering employee leaves of absence.
Experience with full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and employee offboarding.
Experience utilizing Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), including generating standard and custom reports.
Strong organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Human Resources certification, including aPHR, PHR, or SHRM-CP.
Experience working in a nonprofit organization.
Knowledge of California employment laws and HR compliance requirements.

Work Environment

This position is based at the agency's Covina, California office and requires on-site attendance five (5) days per week during normal business hours. The work environment is primarily an office setting with regular interaction with employees, applicants, and agency leadership.

Maintain the ability to travel within the agency's facilities as needed.
