Women In Distress is the only nationally accredited, state-certified, full service domestic violence center serving Broward County, Florida. Our mission is to stop domestic violence abuse for everyone through intervention, education and advocacy.

Job Titles: Outreach Advocate
Reports To: Adult Advocacy Supervisor
Days/Hours:
Full Time: Monday – Friday, 9am to 6pm. But, two days within Monday -Friday hours will be 12:00pm- 9:00pm with flexibility as needed to meet the needs of the department and the agency.
This position is considered “essential” personnel during holidays and in times of hardship, such as extreme weather conditions and/or other emergencies.
Workplace Location(s): Women In Distress’ Family Center and Satellite locations throughout the county, as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Services related field Preferred.
- Two years of work experience in Domestic Violence and/ or Case Management preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills
- In addition, candidates must possess a valid Florida driver’s license, safe driving record, and proof of automobile liability insurance.
- Bilingual Preferred (Spanish/Portuguese)
General Job Description for Outreach Advocate:
The Outreach Advocate will provide supportive, trauma-informed and survivor - directed advocacy services for domestic violence survivors in Women In Distress' Outreach program.
Utilizing best practice models, Advocates facilitate individual support services with participants to include but not limited to the registration and intake process, crisis counseling, individual counseling, service or case management, file reviews, proper timely documentation, facilitation of support groups, and answering crisis calls on the hotline.
Candidates must exhibit a positive, non-judgmental approach to survivors. In addition, candidate must have the ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence, forming proper boundaries, and use of good judgment. Lastly, candidates should preferably have case management experience.
The Outreach Advocate will ensure that all services provided are empowerment-based and are consistent with DCF Domestic Violence Program (DVP) standards. The employee holding this position must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential Job Functions:
· Conducts individual registrations, provide follow-up supportive services, and link participants to community resources as needed.
· Develops a comprehensive safety plan individualized for each participant
· Facilitates orientation, support, and/or empowerment groups, maintaining or consistently increasing group attendance.
· Provides advocacy services utilizing the empowerment model while maintaining a non-judgmental attitude towards participant’s decisions.
· Maintains strict standards of confidentiality.
· Maintains current and accurate participant records by documenting participant’s activities in file and/or required computer database.
· Works in a collaborative manner with appropriate agency staff to complete referrals and linkage to both internal and external community partners to meet survivor's goals and service plan.
· Meet position productivity standards and funding contractual obligations on a regular basis.
· Meet position quality assurance standards on a regular basis.
· Follows State and Agency guidelines when reports of child abuse and incident reports as required and notifies supervisor in a timely manner.
· Completes other tasks as assigned.
Additional requirements: Employee will be required to take the DCF Domestic Violence Program (DVP) Core Competency training and obtain a passing grade of 75% or higher.
