The Role
BBI-Maine (MBS) is focused on antibody development, maintaining competitive catalogue items, and supporting its existing customer base with on time delivery of a consistent quality product. A fundamental aspect of maintaining a diverse menu is having methods for antibody expression, antibody purification, candidate screening, tools for characterization and successful application of current trends based on scientific principles. To meet the expanding needs of our growing customer base, we have entered into a recombinant strategy to drive value for our customers to deliver a product that is reliable and can be modified upon request using basic principles.
The Research Scientist reports directly to the Head of R&D Portland and will support NPD using the recombinant strategy, engage in project management tasks, support the customers of BBI, develop characterization methods with subsequent training of onsite personnel, and serve as a consultant when requested by operations or commercial. As a Scientific Contributor at BBI-Maine, they will be carrying out experimental work including project management within the R&D group that supports the growth of internal antibody development programs, which can encompass NPD, Operational support, and the customers of Global R&D and BBI-Maine.
In this role your responsibilities will include:
- Provide strong scientific and technical leadership in support of BBI goals. Communicate and practice technical expertise in immunology, biochemistry, molecular biology, structural biology and antibody characterization techniques including ELISA to support monoclonal antibody development, NPD and Operations.
- Critically analyse and interpret complex data, and effectively document and communicate results to a variety of audiences.
- Work collaboratively with customers and the Global R&D team to generate custom strategies and plans to achieve customer goals.
- Technical ability to understand and effectively orchestrate the work to accomplish projects, with technical training/support as needed.
- Passionate about achieving results and contributing significantly to organizational outcomes.
- Support new technology development and new product development effort.
- Support operations throughout the laboratories as required / assigned based upon business needs.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of R&D Portland, ME through active communication and collaboration within the Site Leadership team when requested.
Role Requirements:
- M.S./Ph.D. with academic/professional experience in Immunology, Cell/Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field. B.S. candidates will be considered with 5-10 years of professional experience and documented experience reflecting role requirements.
- Hands-on experience in both basic and advanced molecular biology techniques.
- Experience in mammalian cell culture – CHO cell for recombinant production preferred.
- Experience with antibody development, expression, purification and/or characterization preferred.
- Ability to successfully deliver while handling multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude and absolute willingness to learn.
- Self-starter with a strong focus on problem solving, protocol development and process improvement.
- Strong strategic thinking, decision making, and problem solving.
- Leadership skills, including ability to collaborate and influence without authority
- Strong attention to detail, while maintaining a strong sense of priorities
