Position Summary
Junk It Junk Removal is seeking a hands-on Field Lead / Coach to lead field crews while actively working alongside Cleaning Technicians and Workforce Development Trainees.
A primary assignment for this position will be sidewalk cleaning operations. However, this is a Junk It field position, and Field Leads may also be assigned to other company projects, including illegal dumping cleanup, residential cleanup, commercial cleanup, hauling, and other field services based on workload and operational needs.
Because of these additional assignments, actual weekly hours may exceed the typical 25–30 hours associated with sidewalk cleaning operations.
The Field Lead / Coach also plays an important role in Junk It's workforce development efforts. This includes working with individuals who are entering or reentering the workforce and people who may have experienced barriers to traditional employment.
People with lived experience are encouraged to apply. Experience in peer support, workforce development, mentoring, community outreach, or supporting individuals facing employment barriers is welcomed but not required.
What You'll Do
- Lead and work alongside assigned field crews.
- Provide hands-on instruction and coaching to Workforce Development Trainees.
- Perform sidewalk cleaning, litter pickup, debris removal, illegal dumping cleanup, hauling, residential and commercial cleanup, and other assigned field work.
- Safely operate company trucks and haul trailers as required.
- Assign work and clearly communicate daily expectations to crew members.
- Demonstrate proper work procedures rather than simply directing employees from the sidelines.
- Help trainees develop practical workplace skills including attendance, punctuality, following directions, communication, teamwork, safety, problem-solving, and professional conduct.
- Monitor crew productivity, work quality, and route or job completion.
- Inspect completed work and correct missed items whenever possible before leaving the site.
- Follow and enforce company safety procedures and PPE requirements.
- Oversee proper handling of trash, sharps, biohazards, contaminated materials, bulky debris, and other materials encountered during cleanup.
- Maintain safe work practices around pedestrians, businesses, vehicles, traffic, transit stops, sidewalks, curb ramps, residences, commercial properties, and other active environments.
- Keep trucks, trailers, tools, equipment, bags, and collected materials organized and safely positioned.
- Complete required field reports, route information, job documentation, and photo documentation.
- Communicate professionally with customers, businesses, City personnel, coworkers, and members of the public.
- Recognize potential personal property and follow company procedures when it is unclear whether an item should be removed.
- Identify safety concerns, unusual conditions, out-of-scope requests, equipment problems, or other issues requiring management attention.
- Report significant field or personnel issues to the Operations Manager or Supervisor.
- Perform other field duties and cleanup assignments as needed based on company operations.
Leadership & Workforce Development
This is a working lead position. The Field Lead / Coach is expected to lead by example, perform physical field work alongside the crew, and provide clear and consistent direction.
Workforce Development Trainees may have different levels of previous employment experience, job readiness, and familiarity with workplace expectations. Field Leads must be able to demonstrate tasks, provide practical instruction, correct problems, recognize progress, and maintain appropriate workplace expectations.
Supporting workforce development does not mean lowering safety, attendance, quality, or performance standards. The Field Lead / Coach is responsible for helping trainees learn how to meet those standards while maintaining a respectful and professional work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Must meet Junk It's commercial auto insurance requirements without causing a significant increase in insurance costs.

- Experience safely driving, backing, parking, and maneuvering a truck and trailer.
- Ability to lead a crew while actively participating in field work.
- Ability to give clear instructions and respectfully address performance problems.
- Ability to work effectively with employees and trainees with different backgrounds and levels of work experience.

Work Environment
This is hands-on field work performed in public, residential, and commercial environments.
Work may involve sidewalk and right-of-way cleaning, illegal dumping response, residential and commercial cleanups, hauling, bulky debris removal, and other Junk It services.
Employees may encounter loose litter, illegally dumped debris, bulky items, sharps, drug-related paraphernalia, human or animal waste, contaminated materials, pedestrians, traffic, customers, businesses, and changing site or weather conditions.
The Field Lead / Coach is expected to maintain situational awareness, use required PPE, follow company safety procedures, and make appropriate field decisions as conditions change.
