Full Job Description

Overview

Peer2Peer Portland is seeking a certified Peer Wellness Specialist (PWS) to provide relationship-based peer support to people navigating housing instability and other complex life circumstances. Applicants must have a current PWS certification to be considered for this position.

Our Peer Wellness Specialists work in partnership with local community organizations, providing on-site peer support at Bethanie’s Room Emergency Overnight Shelter, Blanchet House of Hospitality, and Rose Haven Day Shelter and Community Center, as well as support in the community.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys connecting with people, providing practical support, and walking alongside peers as they navigate challenges and work toward their goals.

This is a part-time position with the potential for additional hours in the future.

Duties

Build supportive, trusting relationships with peers
Help peers meet immediate needs related to shelter, food, transportation, safety, and other essentials
Connect peers with community resources and services
Support peers in navigating housing and shelter programs, healthcare, public benefits, and social services
Assist with applications, referrals, paperwork, and other practical needs
Accompany peers to appointments, intakes, meetings, and community resources
Support peers in exploring options, making informed choices, and working toward self-defined goals
Provide support during periods of crisis or heightened distress
Advocate alongside peers and support them in communicating their needs and choices
Collaborate with community partners and service providers
Complete required documentation

Experience & Qualifications

Certified Peer Wellness Specialist (PWS)
Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use
Understanding of peer-support principles and trauma-informed practices
Comfortable supporting people experiencing crisis or heightened distress
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Ability to remain grounded and nonjudgmental in challenging situations
Ability to work independently, adapt, and problem-solve
Commitment to respecting peer autonomy, self-determination, and individual choice
