At JC Motors, we are building a shop where customers get a consistent 5-out-of-5 experience and technicians are treated like skilled professionals in a respected trade. That only works if the shop floor has strong technical leadership.
We are hiring an experienced working shop foreman who can help lead that standard.
This is not a role for someone who wants to “grow into” being a foreman. This is not for a good technician who has never truly led a shop floor. We need someone who has already carried foreman-level responsibility and knows what it takes to lead technicians, protect quality, support diagnostics, and keep a general repair shop moving the right way.
If you are an experienced shop foreman who is looking for a long-term home where management will back standards instead of just talking about them, keep reading.

More About the Company
JC Motors is a general automotive maintenance and repair shop in Tualatin. We work on most makes and models and see a wide range of maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and larger mechanical jobs.
We are selective about the major jobs we take on. We do not say yes to every engine job or every large repair just because it is available. If we do not believe we can perform the job reasonably well, support it properly, and stand behind the result, we do not want to sell it.
That matters for this role.
A good foreman does not want to spend his week cleaning up bad decisions that never should have been made. We want a foreman involved in the technical judgment of the shop: what we take on, how we diagnose it, how we plan the repair, who should perform it, and what needs to happen before the vehicle leaves.
JC Motors has been under new ownership over the last couple of years. It is owned by the same family that owns Mountain Tech, a respected independent Subaru specialist shop in Oregon City. We are bringing our company values and priorities to JC Motors to create a better customer and employee experience, something our industry desperately needs.
Why This Role Matters
Our mission is to be innovators in our industry. We operate on two non-negotiable principles: an intentional and consistent 5-out-of-5 customer experience, and an environment where our technicians are equipped, supported, and respected as the experts they are.
That requires a foreman who can lead from the shop floor.
The foreman at JC Motors will help set the technical tone of the shop. You will support the technicians, protect diagnostic integrity, help prevent avoidable comebacks, raise documentation standards, assist with quality control, and help management make better technical decisions.
You will not be expected to do that without authority.
Technicians will report to the foreman. Company management will back the role. You will have the ability to stop a vehicle from leaving if it is not right, require additional testing before work is sold, request better information when a concern is unclear, correct poor workmanship, correct weak documentation, and help guide how work moves through the shop.
This is a leadership role with tools in your hands, not a fake title with extra interruptions.
What We’re Looking For
We need a proven automotive shop foreman.
Not just a strong A-tech. Not just someone who has helped younger techs once in a while. Not someone who wants the title but has never carried the responsibility.
The right person has already led technicians, supported diagnostics, reviewed quality, handled comeback conversations, helped manage workflow, and earned credibility with other techs because he knows what he is talking about.
You should have broad experience across many makes and models, strong diagnostic ability, and the confidence to handle everything from maintenance and inspections to complex repairs and major mechanical work when the job makes sense for the shop.
You should also know how to lead without being a bully, a babysitter, or a bottleneck.
A strong foreman can help a technician think through a problem without doing the whole job for him. He can raise standards without creating drama. He can protect quality without killing production. He can work with service advisors without turning every issue into a fight. He can make the shop better because people trust his judgment.
What You’ll Do
This is a working foreman position.
You will have your own work dispatched to you, and you will still produce billable hours. You will also support the rest of the shop through diagnostics, quality control, training, documentation review, and technical leadership.
The production expectation is approximately 40 billable hours per pay period, averaged quarterly. That target reflects the reality of the role: part of your value is in your own bay, and part of your value is in helping the whole shop produce better work.
You will have access to two bays: one for your own assigned work and longer jobs, and another bay used for diagnostics when vehicles need your evaluation.
Day to day, this role may include:
- Performing your own assigned maintenance, repair, diagnostic, and major mechanical work
- Diagnosing vehicles that need foreman-level evaluation
- Supporting other technicians when they hit a technical wall
- Helping technicians think through testing strategy, cause and effect, and repair planning
- Reviewing quality on certain jobs before delivery
- Helping prevent avoidable comebacks
- Correcting weak notes, poor inspections, or unclear findings
- Making sure photos, video, measurements, and notes actually support the recommendation
- Helping the service department get the right technical information
- Requesting more detail when customer concerns are unclear
- Helping decide whether major jobs should be accepted, sold, or assigned
- Training and developing technicians
- Helping management maintain standards on the shop floor
You will generally communicate through the service advisors rather than directly with customers. Your notes, findings, documentation, and diagnostic direction will help the advisors communicate clearly and honestly.
What We Expect From a Foreman
A strong foreman at JC Motors should be able to:
- Lead experienced technicians and developing technicians
- Diagnose accurately instead of guessing
- Think through cause and effect
- Help others build better diagnostic habits
- Protect the shop from parts-darts repairs
- Perform clean, professional work
- Hold technicians accountable to clean work and clear documentation
- Use photos, video, measurements, and notes to support recommendations
- Help the shop prioritize repairs honestly
- Support inspections, maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and complex jobs
- Perform engine replacement / reman engine installation / rebuild-level work when appropriate
- Help decide when a major job makes sense and when it does not
- Review quality before certain vehicles leave
- Support comeback review with the operations director and management
- Train, coach, and develop other technicians
- Keep production moving without sacrificing quality
- Take pride in doing the job correctly the first time
We care about diagnostic integrity. We care about documentation. We care about quality control. We care about not selling work we cannot stand behind.
A foreman who shares those priorities will understand why this role matters.

The goal is simple: the foreman should be rewarded not only for his own work, but for helping the whole shop produce better work.
