Project Engineer / DetailerJob Description

The Project Engineer / Detailer plays an important role in bringing complex architectural metal and millwork projects from design to fabrication. This position is responsible for the full execution of Metal/Millwork shop drawings using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, with a strong focus on accuracy, constructability, quality, and design intent.

We are looking for a detail-oriented, technically minded professional who takes pride in producing quality work and enjoys solving complex design and fabrication challenges. The ideal candidate is organized, process-driven, able to manage deadlines and budgeted hours, and comfortable collaborating across multiple departments.

This role works closely with Project Management, Engineering, and our fabrication teams, giving the Project Engineer / Detailer the opportunity to see their work progress from architectural plans and shop drawings into finished, built projects.

Candidates should be proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, and other software necessary to successfully perform the role. Above all, this individual should be a strong team player who communicates effectively and works collaboratively to solve problems and contribute to the success of each project.

Duties/Responsibilities

Creates detailed shop drawings per the contract documents and provides Architectural Drawings.
Works closely with the Engineering Manager, Shop Manager, Project Manager, and others to ensure that project detailing is done in detail and per the design intent.
Accounts for budget hours as quoted by Sales to ensure completion of shop drawings in a timely manner.
Seeks ways to expedite drawing time without sacrificing quality or accuracy.
Attends Kick Off meetings to ensure complete understanding of project scope and timelines.
Reviews contract drawings thoroughly to understand expectations and question any discrepancies.
Maintains and organizes drawings in job file per Tate Standards.
Uploads As-Built sets to Bluebeam and PlanGrid as needed.
Identifies and questions items that are out of scope and/or different from contract documents.
Reviews project specs and ensures we are drawing the current sets.
Understands all AWI certified standards.
Works directly under the Engineering Manager.
Reviews takeoffs to ensure proper material amounts are being recognized.
Reviews building practices with Shop Managers and Builders.
Provides feedback for the betterment of the TOP program.
Collaborates with Engineering Team to review new procedures and/or current issues.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time management.
Ability to multitask and effectively manage priorities and deadlines.
Ability to collaborate and contribute as part of a team.
Strong problem-solving skills and willingness to ask questions when drawings, specifications, or project requirements are unclear.
Quality-focused mindset with an appreciation for accuracy and constructability.

Education and Experience

Associate degree in Mechanical Drafting, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
AutoCAD Certification with ornamental fabrication experience is highly desirable.
Experience with software such as Fusion, AutoCAD, and/or Inventor will be highly considered.
At least one year of relevant experience required.
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting or standing.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
