Registered Nurse (RN) – Pre-Admission Testing (PAT)-PRN

Join our team on a flexible, as-needed basis and help ensure patients are prepared for safe, successful surgical care.

We are seeking a PRN Registered Nurse – Pre-Admission Testing (PAT) to support our ambulatory surgery team during periods of increased patient volume and staff coverage needs. This position is ideal for an experienced, detail-oriented RN who enjoys patient education, care coordination, and working independently in a collaborative surgical environment.

As a PRN PAT RN, you'll play a vital role in preparing patients for surgery by conducting assessments, coordinating pre-operative requirements, and serving as a trusted clinical resource for patients and providers.

What You’ll Do

Conduct comprehensive pre-admission screenings and assessments for patients scheduled for ambulatory surgery
Identify allergies, medical conditions, and exclusion criteria using established protocols
Coordinate and obtain required clearances, consults, and pre-surgical testing
Perform pre-surgical testing including EKGs, blood draws, and nasal/oropharyngeal swabs
Collaborate closely with providers to ensure all pre-surgical requirements are completed accurately and on time
Provide clear, compassionate patient education to ensure understanding and comfort throughout the process
Accurately document assessments, testing, and communications in the EMR
Monitor daily PAT schedules and help coordinate an efficient workflow
Serve as a clinical resource for PAT team members through strong assessment skills and clinical knowledge
Proactively identify and help resolve patient safety concerns

What We’re Looking For

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
Active Maine RN license or eligible for licensure
2+ years of clinical experience in a medical practice, hospital, or healthcare setting
BLS certification (required)
Orthopedic or ambulatory surgery experience is a plus
Strong communication, organization, and care coordination skills
Ability to work independently while thriving in a team-based environment
Commitment to professionalism, patient confidentiality, and excellent customer service
Comfort with EMR systems and general computer proficiency
