Full Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Withdrawal Management Aide Non-Exempt Position

RESPONSIBLE TO: WM Supervisor & Program Director

MAJOR DUTIES: The WM Aide provides shift coverage and case management of clients residing in the sub-acute detox unit. This position provides direct support and supervision to patients undergoing medical detoxification from substances. This role ensures a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment while assisting medical staff in the monitoring of patient care. In providing these services, the incumbent performs the following duties:

Ensures an environment that promotes health and safety of patients
Collaborate with nurses, counselors and leadership to support client care plans and treatment.
Complete all milieu duties as needed and assigned.
Conducts admissions screening and intakes pursuant to Physician’s Standing Orders and Withdrawal Management Policies and Procedures.
Develops treatment referrals.
Provides discharge planning.
Conducts routine checks including safety checks.
Observe and report withdrawal symptoms, changes in behavior to medical staff
Supports and implements agency policies and procedures.
Monitors client’s vitals per Physician’s Standing Orders.
Completes charting requirements per WAC 246-341, 246-326, Detox Physician’s Standing orders, and WM policy.

Assists with coverage in other departments or units when staffing levels are low as directed by leadership.
Demonstrates flexibility by providing cross-coverage support to other programs during program needs.
Monitor patients through the detoxification process to ensure safety and compliance with program rules.
De-escalate conflicts and respond to crisis situations using approved interventions.

Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION:

Required High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred knowledgeable about chemical physiology (have taken drug physiology class at an accredited college or university,
Possess a working understanding of the detoxification process and the signs and symptoms that warrant transfer to a medically supervised detox center.
Current CPR/1st Aid certification required.
Current unencumbered driver license and proof of current car insurance required for staff members
Understand the forms, stages, and manifestations of addictive behavior.
Have the ability to write detailed progress notes.
Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
Great attendance.
Ability to work well with others.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS:

Incumbent is under the direct supervision of the Withdrawal Management Supervisor.

GUIDELINES:

WM Aides must meet the requirements delineated in WAC 246-341, non-licensed staff and SUDP’s must complete a minimum of forty hours of documented training before assignment of patient care duties. The training must include: substance use dependency, HIV/AIDS and Hepatitis B education, TB prevention and control and Detox screening, admission, and signs of trauma. Additionally, must have current CPR and First Aid training and certification.

SCOPE AND EFFECT:

The scope of activity is to assess, detoxify and motivate chemically dependent persons to enter treatment. The incumbent facilitates problem resolution by means of insight development and appropriate confrontation. S/he utilizes a variety of community resources to address a wide range of complex problems.

COMPLEXITY:

Under supervision, the incumbent counsels’ clients who differ widely in age and socio-economic status and who may possess a variety of chronic and serious social, behavioral, physical, and psychological problems and who are intoxicated and experiencing withdrawal from chemicals.

PERSONAL CONTACTS:

Contacts are with members of the treatment team, clients, significant others of the clients, administrative, supervisory and clerical personnel, employers, representatives of various community agencies specializing in the treatment of substance use dependency, related community representatives including lawyers, parole officers, and other court officials. All personal contacts are carried out in accordance with federal and state statues, laws and regulations dealing with the confidentiality of alcohol and drug dependent client records.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the essential functions of the job, the employee is regularly required to sit, speak, hear and use hands and fingers to manipulate writing utensils and keys on a keyboard. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands or arms, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or move a maximum of 20 lbs. Occasional heavy lifting may be required.

WORKING ENVIRONMENTS:

Most working hours are spent indoors in offices or meeting rooms. Visits to community agencies and participation in staff retreats/staff development activities may be required.

Salary: $20.85 - 23.00/hr DOE
