Full Job Description

Build the software that runs a van company: four production apps, the APIs between them, and the dashboards that show what's working. Agent-first. In-office in Washougal, WA.

Grit Overland is a family-owned RV manufacturer in Washougal, Washington, about 30 minutes east of Portland. We've built adventure camper vans since 2020 and sell them factory-direct. Behind the vans there's more software than you'd expect: a build-and-price calculator, a CRM and phone system, first-party attribution tracking, and an AI writing tool. All in-house, all in production, all built AI-first. One of our co-founders wrote them. We're hiring the developer who takes them over and builds what comes next.

HOW WE BUILD

We're an agent-first shop. Every application lives in its own project with its own context, and the work is orchestrating coding agents through the whole cycle: research, planning, implementation, review, deploy. You'll own the context engineering that makes the agents effective here - the project instruction files, skills, MCP servers and scripts each codebase carries - and the hygiene around them. Secrets live in .env files and the vault, never in a repo.

Our tool is Claude Code in the terminal, and we recommend it. But the workflow is the requirement, not the platform. If you've built the same muscle in Cursor, Codex, Cline or another agentic setup, you'll translate fast.

The stack is simple on purpose: React front ends, Node/Express APIs and Postgres, in TypeScript and JavaScript. Delivery runs through GitHub with staging and production branches, CI, and continuous deployment to Railway, with WordPress on SiteGround for the site. Managed platforms throughout. No Kubernetes, no VMs to patch. We'd rather run a small system we fully understand than a big one we don't.

The craft is judgment: scoping the work, directing the agents, deciding what to trust and what to test. If this is already how you work, you'll recognize it immediately. If you've started down this road and shipped real work this way, even recently, we want to hear from you. If you've never let an agent drive, this isn't the job to learn it in.

WHAT YOU'LL OWN

The four in-house apps. The build calculator, the CRM/phone system, the attribution tracker and the AI writer: bug fixes, new features, uptime. You're the technology lead. The co-founder who wrote these systems isn't leaving the company; you're taking the systems over, not being left alone with them.
The plumbing between systems. A customer configures a van in our calculator; that should become a real estimate in Zoho that sales converts to an invoice and a real payment. Some of that chain exists today; some of it is yours to build. Zoho, Klaviyo, Twilio, Google and Meta ads. APIs and webhooks throughout. You own it end to end.
The dashboards. Leads, pipeline, calls, ad spend and email results in one view, pulled from those same APIs, so the owners stop logging into five systems to answer one question. The attribution tracker is the start of this; the rest is yours to design.
Security and access. Who can touch what across Zoho One, Microsoft 365, GitHub, Railway and WordPress. MFA, least privilege, API-key rotation, backups you've actually restored, customer data handled properly.
The ecommerce build-out. Our Shopify storefront and product listings (photos, specs, descriptions), wired properly into our Zoho ERP alongside the WordPress site.
Keeping the lights on. GitHub, Railway, SiteGround, Cloudflare, DNS, Microsoft 365 and Zoho One administration. We document runbooks for access and recovery; you'll keep them true.
Marketing execution, run the way you run code. Marketing is genuinely part of this job, and the skill that makes it work is the same one you bring to development: orchestrating AI against documented systems. Generate emails with our in-house AI writer and build them in Klaviyo (proofreaders behind you; you don't need to be a writer), keep our RV marketplace listings current, sit the monthly session with our SEO firm, and watch the analytics weekly. Every recurring task has a playbook written or in progress. Photoshop, Illustrator or general graphic-design skills are a plus, not a requirement.

Projects already on the board: the calculator-to-Zoho estimate chain, the Shopify storefront, the reporting dashboards, and rebuilding our Google Ads conversion tracking. You'll help set the order.

WHO DOES WELL HERE

You've shipped and maintained production web applications, solo or on a small team, comfortable across the stack and owning your own deploys. Ours is React, Node/Express and Postgres in TypeScript and JavaScript, with Twilio under the phone system, PHP only where WordPress lives, and a Shopify storefront build ahead.
You build with coding agents (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, Cline or another agentic setup) and you can show us real work shipped that way.
You've wired SaaS systems together before: REST APIs, webhooks, OAuth and API-key auth, rate limits, retries, idempotency, and the silent failure nobody noticed for a week. Bonus if any of it was Zoho, Klaviyo or Twilio.
You've built dashboards or reporting that pull from more than one source and put the numbers in front of people who make decisions.
You take security seriously without being told: auth and sessions, least privilege, secrets out of the repo, dependencies kept current.
You're comfortable with systems administration: DNS records, admin consoles, user accounts vs. shared mailboxes, API-key hygiene. Not a specialty, a literacy.
You take ownership. Four production apps and one developer means you notice, triage and fix. Nobody assigns you tickets here, and when a contractor or an agent is doing the work, you direct it and you review it.

WHAT WE WON'T ASK OF YOU

Marketing strategy, brand voice or copywriting. The AI writer drafts, proofreaders check, playbooks cover the recurring work, and a co-founder trains you on the machine. What we can't teach, and won't try to, is the development craft. That arrives with you.

$72,000 - $98,000 a year, depending on experience

Full-time, on-site at our factory in Washougal, WA, about 30 minutes from Portland. From Portland or Vancouver it's a reverse commute: you drive against the traffic both ways. You'll be around the vans, the production floor and the founders daily. That's how the handoff works.
You'll report to our President/CEO and work shoulder-to-shoulder with the co-founder whose systems you're taking over.

HOW TO APPLY
