Location Highlights
Oregon City, Oregon, rests on the Willamette River southeast of Portland. It is part of the Portland Metropolitan Area (along with Beaverton, Gresham, Hillsboro, and Vancouver, WA). Oregon City was the first capital of Oregon prior to the creation of the Oregon Territory in 1848. Before settling on Salem in 1864, the capital was moved several times to several different cities. It is also the end point of the Oregon Trail. Oregon City has the only “vertical street” in the nation, Elevator Street. Activities include museums, historic buildings, and over 22 city parks, including Clackamette Park at the confluence of the Willamette and Clackamas rivers. Oregon City is also home to Willamette Falls, the largest waterfall by volume in the Pacific Northwest.
Position Highlights
The Clackamas County Circuit Court is hiring a Release Assistance Officer.
In this role, you will determine pretrial release options for defendants by applying Oregon Revised Statutes, Chief Justice Orders, Presiding Judge Orders, and using risk assessment tools. You will research and prepare reports for judges on adults in custody who are ineligible for release, including compiling criminal and FTA history using LEDS and OJD systems, verifying residence and employment, and determining current and past probation or parole status. This job requires you to complete risk assessments. You will verify information given and release adults in custody who meet criteria. You will determine who, upon release, is most likely to appear in court, is not likely to commit new offenses, and does not pose a threat to the community or themselves.
Part of this position is attending court proceedings to testify to recommendations for release and other matters. You will identify and prepare files that need to be added on dockets and correspond with other court staff. You will complete financial affidavits to determine eligibility for court appointed counsel. You will also prepare, disperse, and collect affidavits of indigence for adults in custody set for arraignment.
Additionally, you will research and apply information gathered from multiple sources and maintain contact with people who are under pretrial conditional release. You will ensure their appearance at court and will verify accuracies of court dates for court reminders. You will perform clerical and computer work, including preparing new files, typing, filing, and reviewing court orders. You will also respond to questions from judges and court staff about pretrial release and court appointed counsel.
Assigned tasks may be changed to accommodate workload and organizational needs.
