Full Job Description

Position Summary / Scope of Responsibility:The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO) is one of the nations largest Orthopaedics practices, owned and operated by physicians, with over 60 locations across Maryland, NorthernVirginia, and the District of Columbia. With approximately 2,000 employees, working in 28 Divisions,CAO is a growing business with revenues of approximately $250 Million. CAO is committed to be theOrthopaedics provider of choice for our patients; partner of choice for payors and health systems; and employer of choice by attracting and retaining a talented workforce. The Physical Therapy Aide is responsible for providing support/assistance to physical therapists and therapist's assistants in their treatment of patients, under their direct supervision as required in accordance with CAO's policies and procedures and state and federal (Medicare) rules and regulations. The Physical Therapy Aide may also be responsible for assisting in front desk job duties as necessary.

Primary Responsibilities: The incumbent may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Mission, Core Values and Operating Principles of CAO.

1. Assists the therapists in the treatment of patients, under the therapists’ direct supervision, including but not limited to the following: retrieving and/or assisting therapists with set up and administration of modalities; setting up exercise machines as necessary for each individual patient; monitoring exercise repetitions/form as requested by the therapists for patients.

2. Cleans plinths, equipment, counter tops, and any other surfaces as necessary to disinfect clinic and maintain CAO's high standards of cleanliness.

3. Adheres to work schedules, which are created to maximize hours of patient care and patient volume, therefore, schedules may vary from day to day depending on patient need, including early morning hours, evening hours and Saturday hours depending on clinic.

4. Assists with doing laundry (if applicable) and ensuring towels, gowns, etc. are clean, folded and put away in the appropriate place.

5. Performs front desk job duties including but not limited to answering the phone, scheduling patients, patient registration, insurance verification and any other duties as specified by Clinic Manager/Therapy Director.

6. Is responsible for attending monthly clinic staff meetings or if unable to attend, he/she is responsible for obtaining a copy of the written agenda from the Clinic Manager/Therapy Director.

7. Assists with the smooth running of the clinic, which may include variations in scheduled hours, as well as staffing at another CAO location.

8. Actively participates on the Therapy team, including but not limited to staff meetings, CAO sponsored events, webinars, in-services, and departmental meetings.

9. May be required to work evenings and Saturdays depending on Division operating hours and needs of the therapy clinic.

10. Other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: The Physical Therapy Aide reports directly to the Therapy leader (either Clinic Manager or Therapy Director if one and the same) at the assigned Division and clinic. The role currently does not have any direct reports.

Requirements, Education, and Experience:

1. At least 17 years of age.2. Experience and proficiency working with computers and electronic medical records.3. Maintains CPR Certification for Healthcare Professionals

Competencies / Required Skills and Abilities:

2. Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment with a proven track record of results

3. Strong oral and written communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience4. Required to be proficient in Windows based office technologies (e.g., Word, Excel)5. Able to work independently6. Exudes professionalism in presentation7. Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in the English language8. Must participate in CAO's Rehab Aide training and pass CAO's Rehab Aide proficiency exam

Physical Demands:

1. Must be able to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.2. Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics techniques when making necessary patient transfers and helping patients with exercises.3. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.4. Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift.5. Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone.6. Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.7. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient, as well as reading materials from printed sources and computer screens.
