Full Job Description

The Innovations Surgery Center (ISC) is a progressive, minimally invasive GYN surgical center in MD that requires the services of an experienced, physician assistant in Rockville, MD

***We are looking for a temporary employee to cover maternity leave from September-December 31. We are open to person(s) only able to cover 1-2 days per weeks.

ISC specializes in advanced minimally invasive procedures and elite GYN care. Our state-of-the-art center is fully equipped to provide nearly all types of general, urological, gynecologic, and pain management surgery services. ISC has redefined the meaning of minimally invasive GYN surgery, providing some of the most advanced procedures for women in 46 states and 30 countries. ISC developed innovative and revolutionary techniques to simplify even the most complicated surgical procedures in collaboration with the Center for Innovative GYN Care physicians. We care for each patient as a true individual, and through a detailed and personalized approach, our staff have our patients back on their feet as swiftly as possible.

The physician assistant is responsible for perioperative duties and GYN clinical duties under the direction of our surgeons and physicians in collaboration with the surgical and clinical teams.

This position provides incredible work-life balance with no weekend, holiday or night shifts.
Surgical Responsibilities:
· Positions the patient in accordance with the surgeon’s instruction.

· Uses standard and specialized equipment to aid in patient positioning.

· Provides the surgeon with appropriate visualization of the operative site using retractors, sponges, and other techniques according to standards.

· Performs duties as a first assist in all surgical specialties practicing in the ASC.

· Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes, i.e., sutures and staples.

· Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings.

· Assists with patient transport to and from OR, including from stretcher to bed.

· Participates in monitoring quality of care according to professional standards and established criteria.

· Performs other related duties as indicated.

· Assists with maintaining established organizational policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety, and environmental and infection control standards.

· Works collaboratively with team to assist in room turnover.

· Perform History and Physical in the perioperative setting.

· Evaluate and assess the patient during the recovery period.

· Collaborate with the physician prior to discharge and write prescriptions as needed for pain management.
Clinical Responsibilities:
· Triaging Patients over the phone

· Performing post-op wound care checks

· Prescribing oral contraceptives, post-op antibiotics and narcotics

· Consulting with patients for hormone treatments

· Performing routine physical exams, gynecological examinations, and endometrial biopsies

· Placement of IUD and Nexplanon

· Screening for breast cancer

· Reviewing Pathology Reports

· Ordering and Reviewing Labs

· Obtaining insurance prior authorization (IUDs)

Requirements:
· Three (3) years of continuous, documented experience as a Physician Assistant

· 1+ Years of Experience as a First Assistant working in a multi-specialty surgical setting

· Valid Maryland State PA License

· Valid NCCPA Certification

· BLS certification required. ACLS certification preferred.

· Preference may be given for GYN experience.

· Weekday position with no weekends, holidays or night shifts required
