Duties Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Deputy/Regional Director, the selected candidate(s) will provide daily management and support activities within the Executive Office of Region 8: Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the Deputy/Regional director with office-related project development, implementation, and review (through the collection and analysis of data)
- Create and maintain tracking tools to coordinate with various Group Directors to ensure work product from the Regional Director’s office is completed in a thorough and timely fashion
- Draft, edit, and review external correspondence to various internal and external audiences; ensuring proper communication protocols are utilized
- Track and manage transportation initiatives and projects through daily interactions with key NYSDOT Project Managers on behalf of the Regional Director
- Create and manage various levels of briefing documents and correspondence for the Commissioner, Assistant Commissioner, Regional Director, and elected officials
- Collect, analyze, evaluate and summarize data in support of regional projects and initiatives
- Develop various reports (using both existing formats and developing new formats) for executive review and use
- Assist in developing, implementing, and maintaining systems, procedures, and manuals in support of planning activities and projects
- Develop planning and project procedures and manuals for use by agency staff and key external partners
- Provide Emergency Management and ICS support, including situational awareness, via monitoring of emails and phone calls during activations and providing responses as needed
- Serve as a point of contact for intergovernmental inquiries from local and State elected officials regarding NYSDOT projects and related work
- Coordinate external stakeholder meetings as needed for the Regional Director’s Office
- Provide additional support to the office as needs are identified
Requirements
Transportation Analyst Trainee 1:
Four years of experience directly related to highways or transportation in either planning, engineering management, systems analysis or quantitative analysis of transportation or highway systems, and must have included direct responsibility for the preparation of written materials, such as narrative reports, letters of memoranda documenting the accomplishments, or supervision of such activity.
Transportation Analyst Trainee 2:
Five years of experience directly related to highways or transportation in either planning, engineering management, systems analysis or quantitative analysis of transportation or highway systems, and must have included direct responsibility for the preparation of written materials, such as narrative reports, letters of memoranda documenting the accomplishments, or supervision of such activity.
Transportation Analyst 1:
Six years of experience directly related to highways or transportation in either planning, engineering management, systems analysis or quantitative analysis of transportation or highway systems, and must have included direct responsibility for the preparation of written materials, such as narrative reports, letters of memoranda documenting the accomplishments, or supervision of such activity.
Substitutions: An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for four years of experience; a master’s degree may substitute for five years of experience; and a doctorate may substitute for six years of experience.
If chosen, you may, at the agency's discretion, be appointed to a higher level. You must inform the agency of any additional qualifications at your interview.
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.
