The Town of Poultney, Vermont is seeking a reliable, energetic, and trustworthy professional who doesn't mind wearing multiple hats. Experienced in handling a wide range of operational and administrative duties that support related tasks and able to work independently with little or no supervision.
The individual will be responsible for supervising two part-time employees, and the overall operations of the Poultney Transfer Station. This includes accepting the following items: MSW, C&D, metal, plastics, food waste, tin/aluminum, cardboard, paper, newspaper, magazines, glass, white products, tires, e-waste, and much more.
The individual will also serve in a positive public relations role for the Town of Poultney with the general public in answering inquiries and providing information, consistent with Town policy and state law.
This is a part-time position, with hours being approximately 27 per week from March through November and 24 hours per week from December through February. The Transfer Station is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, 8:00AM – 5:00PM, and for (March – November) and 8:00AM – 4:00PM (December – February).
Typical work involves:
- The safe operation of all material handling equipment, including trash and zero sort compactors, as well as a backhoe.
-Prepare various reports regarding operations and workload
-Monitor and report activities of the facility to the Town Manager
-Separate refuse from recyclable materials
- Ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the facility, parking areas, grass as required
- Assist, direct and educate patrons in proper disposal methods
- Attend formal and informal professional training
Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Instruct patrons in proper recycling techniques and facility rules/guidelines
- Operate and perform basic maintenance of backhoe
- Receive and account for cash or check
- Complete training requirements at the discretion of the Town Manager
-Other Duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Town Manager
Requirements of work:
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to make judgment as to proper disposal methods
- Math skills to include addition and subtraction
- Ability to work courteously with citizens, co-workers and others that utilize the facility.
- Ability to operate driving machinery
- Ability to operate stationary equipment
- Lift items not to exceed 50 pounds
- Standing for long periods of time
