Full Job Description

Introduction

The Department of Corrections (DOC) is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of those in our care. Corrections employees have the opportunity to positively impact the lives of others through careers in a variety of fields. The Division of Adult Institutions is recruiting to fill a Secretary Confidential position. This position is based out of Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution in Prairie du Chien, WI.

Position Summary

This position serves as secretary to the Warden, performing a wide array of complex secretarial functions and responsibilities requiring extensive knowledge of the Department, Division, and institutional policies and procedures. This position is responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the administrative office; managing the institutions public relations, media and the community relation programs; receiving and monitoring special assignments to and for the Warden; and maintaining files, records, plans and procedures.

This position is an extremely sensitive position involving contact with Persons in Our Care (PIOC), staff and various public and private persons and agencies, as well as having access and process responsibilities regarding highly confidential management matters and personnel related issues.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-05 with a starting pay of $41600 - $59092 per year, plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

NOTE: This position may be eligible to work remotely occasionally, based upon workload and approval from supervisor.

Reviewing and preparing responses to inquiries from internal and external stakeholders
Managing and maintaining daily office communications and administrative tasks
