POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Senior Center Director, the Custodian/Dishwasher is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation throughout the Senior Center, including the dining room, kitchen, restrooms, hallways, and common areas. This position also washes dishes, pots, and pans, and assists in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for participants and staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Wash pots, pans, dishes, and kitchen items using the dishwasher.
- Wipe and sanitize dining room tables and chairs.
- Sweep, mop, and spot clean floors as needed.
- Empty trash containers and replace liners.
- Clean drinking fountains.
- Sweep and mop kitchen areas and clean sinks.
- Clean and sanitize men's and women's restrooms.
- Replace soap, paper towels, and toilet paper supplies.
- Vacuum hallways, entryways, game room, and meeting room as needed.
- Dust furniture and clean air vents.
- Clean walls, windows, doors, ledges, and vending machine areas.
- Report supply needs to the Senior Center Director.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, sanitation practices, and safe use of cleaning products.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Ability to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Dependability and attention to detail.
- Ability to interact professionally with staff, volunteers, and the public.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Previous custodial, janitorial, housekeeping, or dishwashing experience preferred but not required.
SUPERVISION:
- Moderate supervision is provided for this position.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Kansas Driver's License preferred but not required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks.
- Frequently required to lift, carry, push, or pull supplies and equipment.
- May occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and respond appropriately to workplace situations.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work is performed primarily within the Senior Center facility.
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, wet floors, and routine housekeeping conditions.
- Must maintain safe work practices and cleanliness standards.
