Driller / Horizontal Directional Drill Operator Stronghold Contracting Group Prattville, AL | Full-Time | Hourly | Weekly Pay
About the Role
Stronghold Contracting Group is looking for an experienced Driller to operate horizontal directional drilling (HDD) equipment on active telecommunications and fiber infrastructure construction projects across the Southeast. This is a hands-on field role for someone who knows how to run a drill, takes pride in their work, and can be counted on to lead their machine and their bore site every single day.
What You Will Be Doing
- Operating horizontal directional drilling equipment to complete bore installations per project specifications, drawings, and depth requirements
- Reading and following bore path plans and communicating with the locator throughout each bore to ensure accuracy and safety
- Performing pre-shift inspections on the drill rig and all associated equipment before each operation
- Monitoring drilling fluid pressure, flow, and conditions throughout the bore and making real-time adjustments as needed
- Coordinating with the drill crew, locator, and supervisor to ensure smooth and safe bore operations from setup to pullback
- Identifying and communicating utility conflicts, soil conditions, and any obstacles that affect the bore path
- Completing pullback operations and ensuring conduit or product pipe is installed correctly and without damage
- Maintaining the drill rig and ancillary equipment in clean, serviceable condition and reporting mechanical issues immediately
- Following all SCG safety policies, OSHA requirements, and client site-specific safety rules on every shift
- Accurately clocking in and out using the QuickBooks Workforce app for every shift
What We Are Looking For
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience operating HDD equipment in a field construction environment
- Demonstrated ability to run a bore from setup through pullback with minimal supervision
- Experience reading bore path plans and working alongside a locator
- Working knowledge of drill fluid systems, tooling selection, and soil conditions
- Ability to perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record
- Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
- Willingness to travel to project sites across SCG's service area, including overnight stays when required
Experience on Vermeer, Ditch Witch, or similar HDD equipment is preferred. Telecom or fiber construction experience is a strong plus.
