About the Role
As an Operating Room Technician (OR Tech), you are a critical part of the surgical team. You'll be responsible for preparing operating rooms, ensuring surgical instruments and equipment are sterile and readily available, and assisting surgeons and nurses throughout procedures.
Your attention to detail, knowledge of sterile technique, and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team directly contribute to patient safety and positive surgical outcomes. Success in this role requires strong technical skills, adaptability, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of infection prevention and surgical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms for surgical procedures
- Set up and organize surgical instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies
- Establish and maintain sterile fields throughout procedures
- Verify the functionality and sterility of surgical instruments and equipment
- Assist surgeons, registered nurses, and anesthesia providers during operations
- Pass instruments and supplies while anticipating surgical team needs
- Monitor surgical counts, supplies, instruments, sponges, and needles
- Assist with patient positioning and preparation before procedures
- Support operating room turnover and preparation between cases
- Adhere to infection control, sterilization, and patient safety standards
- Maintain accurate documentation and supply management practices
Minimum Qualifications
- Active Surgical Technologist certification or license as required by state and facility
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Surgical Tech or Operating Room experience
- Strong knowledge of sterile processing and infection prevention practices
- Ability to thrive in fast-paced operating room environments
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Commitment to patient safety and quality surgical care
