CONTROLLER

Growing Privately Held Organization

Position Summary

A growing, privately held organization is seeking a Controller to lead day-to-day accounting and financial operations while helping strengthen the broader business as it continues to scale. The company has grown meaningfully through acquisition and expects additional expansion, creating an opportunity for a hands-on finance leader to improve processes, build accountability and support future integrations.

This role is well suited for someone who can operate beyond the numbers: a practical leader who understands how a business works, thinks logically, communicates well across departments and can turn financial information into useful insight for leadership.

The Opportunity

Join an organization that has spent the past year strengthening its accounting team, leadership structure and cross-functional accountability.

Help continue breaking down departmental silos and build consistent processes across a growing organization.

Lead a small accounting team with two direct reports: an Assistant Controller and an Accounting Administrator. The current Controller will remain with the organization and transition into the Assistant Controller role, providing valuable continuity and institutional knowledge.

Partner closely with senior leadership and ownership on financial, operational and strategic priorities.

Support process improvement, systems integration and future acquisition activity as the organization grows.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting

Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.

Lead month-end and year-end close processes and ensure accurate, timely reporting.

Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable requirements.

Analyze financial results, identify trends and provide practical variance analysis and business insight to leadership.

Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and scenario planning.

Accounting Operations & Process Improvement

Oversee general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, reconciliations and related accounting activities.

Evaluate and improve accounting policies, procedures, workflows and reporting processes.

Drive automation, system improvements and integration work that improves accuracy and efficiency.

Coordinate annual audit, tax compliance and relationships with external financial partners.

Support financial integration and due diligence needs related to future acquisitions.

Leadership & Business Partnership

Manage, mentor and develop the accounting team while establishing clear expectations and accountability.

Work cross-functionally with department leaders to understand business needs and improve decision-making.

Bring a broad business mindset to the role, balancing technical accounting discipline with practical operational judgment.

Serve as a key finance partner to senior leadership and ownership on strategic initiatives.

Administrative & People Support

Serve as the primary internal point of contact for an outsourced HR partner.

Support employee administration, benefits coordination, business insurance and related vendor relationships.

Help ensure administrative processes scale appropriately as the organization grows.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a closely related field.

5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including responsibility for close, reporting and core accounting operations.

Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting.

Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring accounting staff.

Strong Excel and financial analysis skills; experience with accounting/ERP systems and process improvement.

Experience in a growing, changing or acquisition-oriented environment is strongly preferred.

Compensation, Schedule & Team Environment

Base compensation up to approximately $130,000, depending on experience.

Primarily in-office role with some flexibility; up to one remote day per week may be available depending on business needs.

The organization has a lean team today and expects continued growth, including potential future acquisitions that could materially increase headcount over a relatively short period of time.

Hands-on ownership is on site and accessible. The culture emphasizes employee retention, listening to employees and maintaining a close-knit team environment as the business grows.

Interview process: an initial in-person meeting with the senior finance leader, followed by conversations with ownership.

Pay: $115,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
