Help Launch Turco Legal's Rhode Island Office
Turco Legal is expanding into Rhode Island, and we're looking for an exceptional family law attorney to help build and lead our presence in the state. We're looking for someone who enjoys practicing independently, exercising sound judgment, and collaborating with colleagues when additional perspective is valuable.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include:
- Represent clients in a broad range of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, spousal support, modifications, enforcement and contempt actions, guardianships, adoptions, name changes, and related family law proceedings.
- Manage a sophisticated caseload from initial consultation through resolution.
- Prepare for and appear at hearings, settlement conferences, mediations, depositions, trials, and other court proceedings.
- Negotiate fair and practical settlements whenever possible while preparing every case for trial when necessary.
- Develop and implement case strategy as matters evolve.
- Develop discovery strategy, including determining evidentiary needs and the appropriate timing of discovery.
- Perform legal research and prepare legal memoranda.
- Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery requests, discovery responses, correspondence, and settlement documents.
- Collaborate with and mentor associate attorneys as our Rhode Island team grows.
- Work closely with experienced paralegals and legal assistants to deliver exceptional client service.
Minimum Qualifications
Please apply only if you meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing in Rhode Island.
- At least five years of experience primarily handling family law matters in Rhode Island.
- Comprehensive knowledge of complex financial issues arising in divorce, including business valuations, executive compensation, equity interests, forensic accounting, vocational assessments, and related financial matters.
- Extensive experience handling complex child custody matters, including relocation cases, domestic violence, substance use disorders, and mental health issues.
- Demonstrated willingness to take appropriate cases through trial when settlement is not in the client's best interests.
- Excellent legal research, writing, advocacy, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional case management abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and modern legal technology.
- Reliable transportation.
- A willingness to work primarily in the Providence area as we establish our Rhode Island office. During the initial launch period, work arrangements may be flexible while we finalize our permanent office location.
Preferred Qualifications
The following are not required but would be considered a plus:
- Certified Financial Litigator (CFL) designation.
- Experience handling family law appeals.
- Experience litigating interstate or international family law matters.
- Experience using modern practice management software.
- Interest in mentoring junior attorneys.
- Interest in advancing to a Partner or Partner in Charge role.

Unlike many firms entering a new market, you'll have the backing of an established regional organization with approximately 20 attorneys, experienced administrative professionals, sophisticated marketing, proven technology, centralized billing and accounting, recruiting support, human resources, information technology, and an experienced leadership team. We've invested heavily in technology, centralized operations, marketing, recruiting, billing, and administrative support so our attorneys can spend more time practicing law and less time running a business. Rather than building a law firm from scratch, you'll have the opportunity to help build a new office while benefiting from the resources and infrastructure of an established, successful practice.
