Design Director – Branded Division

Full-Time | In Office

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly creative and strategic Design Director to lead the Branded Division. This role requires a hands-on creative leader who can both drive high-level vision and actively participate in the design and development process.

The Design Director will oversee all aspects of design—from concept through production—while working closely with licensed brand partners, internal sales teams, and overseas factories. A critical part of this role is the ability to interpret brand DNA into trend-right, commercially viable product, while also developing and mentoring a growing design team.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Direction & Hands-On Design Leadership

Lead the design and development of trend-driven, brand-right collections across jewelry and accessories
Translate licensed brand guidelines into innovative, commercially successful product assortments
Actively participate in the design process, including:
Concept development and sketching
Component and silhouette creation
Recoloring and line building
Oversee the creation of cohesive product groupings and seasonal assortments for key accounts

Licensed Brand Collaboration (Critical)

Serve as the primary design lead in communication with licensed brand partners
Present design concepts, collections, and seasonal direction to brand stakeholders
Ensure all products align with brand standards, approvals, and aesthetic direction
Build and maintain strong relationships with external brand design and buying teams

Sales Partnership & Customer-Facing Design

Partner closely with Sales to develop custom presentations and products for key retail accounts
Participate in market appointments, line reviews, and customer meetings
Support the creation of compelling presentations and showroom updates
Present trends, concepts, and product ideas internally and externally

Product Development & Factory Communication

Oversee product from initial concept through sample execution and production
Direct communication with overseas factories on:
Component development
Construction and execution
Sample revisions and approvals
Ensure designs meet cost targets, margin requirements, and customer price points
Guide teams through cost negotiation and value engineering when needed

Cross-Functional Collaboration

Work closely with the Product Development and Sales teams to align design with business goals
Drive collaboration across teams to ensure timely execution from design inception to completion
Support showroom merchandising and seasonal updates with trend-driven product groupings

Trend Research & Market Insight

Lead ongoing trend research, market shopping, and competitive analysis
Develop and present trend direction and seasonal concepts to internal teams and customers
Identify new opportunities within licensed brands and retail partners

Team Leadership & Talent Development

Manage, mentor, and inspire a team of designers at varying levels
Provide clear direction, feedback, and support to elevate team performance
Identify and develop talent to grow within the department and organization
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and fast-paced creative environment

Qualifications

8–12+ years of experience in jewelry/accessories design
Proven experience working with licensed brands (required)
Strong background in end-to-end design and product development
Experience presenting to retail customers and external brand partners
Demonstrated ability to manage and develop creative teams
Deep understanding of:
Jewelry construction and componentry
Overseas production and factory communication
Costing and pricing structures

Skills

Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop
Strong hand sketching and/or digital rendering ability
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Strong organizational and follow-up skills
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
