Full Job Description

Providence Public Schools District (PPSD) seeks an exceptional SUPERVISING OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST who is highly qualified and skillful to join our community of teachers, students and stakeholders. This is an exciting opportunity for teachers who seek a challenging yet rewarding teaching experience.

The Supervising Occupational Therapist will be responsible for providing quality occupational therapy services including: assessment, intervention, program planning and implementation, discharge planning and related documentation and communication. Service may take the form of direct, monitored, and consultative approaches. The supervising OTR will rpovide direct supervision for certified occupational therapy assistants including observation, evaluation for students on COTA caseloads, guidance for therapy activities, goal development for IEPs of students serviced by COTA Staff.

We serve approximately 22,000 students at 37 elementary, middle, and high schools. Approximately 55% of students come from homes where English is not the primary language spoken. Combined, our students and families speak 55 different languages and hail from 91 countries of origin.

In PPSD, the teachers and leaders set high expectations for academic achievement, provide equal access to differentiated instruction, and endeavor to close the achievement and opportunity gap among historically marginalized subgroups within the schools. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

License required my the RI Department of Health: Occupational Therapist

Qualifications:

Experience working with students who are moderately/severely diabled preferred
Minimum of three (3) years experience with school aged students preferred
Minimum of three (3) years experience supervising COTA staff preferred

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide direct occupational therapy services to students consistent with IEP requirements
Provide consultation to classroom teachers and staff and needed and required by IEPs
Provide written reports on services provided and/or progress notes as required by the special education office
Willingness to work as an itinerant to cover all components of this assignment
Willingness to work with families of walk-in students on carry-over activities for the home setting and scheduling of therapy sessions
Willingness to complete home instruction for OT services
Completion of evaluations in compliance with laws and regulations including: scheduling, working wih students, providing written evaluations in a timely fashion, providing goals for implementation when appropriate
Documentation of services for Medicaid purposes
Direct supervision and guidance to COTA staff relative to evaluations, IEP goals, treatment strategies, and activities for students assigned to therapy assistant caseload
Any/all duties thay may be assigned by the Special Education Supervisor
