Position Announcement

The Department of Architecture Engineering Design (www.uvu.edu/aed) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Architecture to begin January 1, 2027.

The architecture faculty member develops and teaches a wide range of architectural design studio and other courses such as architectural theory, graphic communication, theory, history, and building science. The faculty member engages in scholarly activities that contribute to the mission of the university, department, and profession. In addition, the faculty member provides service at the department, college, and university levels.

The Department of Architecture & Engineering Design at Utah Valley University offers a five-year Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree that prepares students for professional licensure and leadership in the built environment. The program is distinguished by its commitment to a 21st-century classical approach, one that treats architecture as a living tradition grounded in human-scale design, craft, sustainability, and cultural continuity while engaging contemporary technologies and professional practice. The department also offers complementary pathways, including associate degrees and certificates, that support diverse routes into the profession.

The successful candidate will join a growing, collaborative faculty dedicated to excellence in teaching, mentoring, and community engagement. This position offers the opportunity to shape curriculum, contribute to a nationally recognized accreditation effort, and work closely with students in a studio-centered learning environment. Summary of Responsibilities

Instructs, manages, and supervises individuals and groups in classrooms, online, and laboratories, through demonstration, discussion, visual aids, individualized instruction, lectures, and other appropriate methods for educational delivery.
Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught. Prepares instructional materials. Evaluates student performance using appropriate testing and grading procedures.
Engages in scholarly activities, including applied research, and produces scholarly/creative work consistent with disciplinary specialization and the academic goals of the department.
Serves the department, college, and university by attending departmental meetings, working on committees, and accepting other service appointments.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

NAAB or other accredited professional degree in architecture (M.Arch).

Preferred Qualifications

Professional practice experience in an architecture office, minimum of three years.
Certificate in Classical Architecture from the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art (ICAA) or a degree from a university with a focus on classical or traditional architecture.
Experience working directly with the National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB).
One or more years of successful teaching experience in higher education.
Professional license in Architecture OR have completed the experience requirements of the AXP program and are on track to complete the 6 sections of the Architectural Registration Exam.

In-depth knowledge of traditional and classical architectural theory, history, and design.
Awareness of the cultural and historical contexts that influence architectural design.

Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering programs.

Strong program coordination skills.
Effective verbal and technical written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Strong presentation and proposal skills.

Ability to relate with students and effectively teach, train, and mentor students.
Ability to conduct scholarship/creative works and service, and have teaching interests that align with the architecture discipline.
Demonstrated record of research, creative, and/or professional work that demonstrates expertise in traditional design.
