Surgical Patient Coordinator (Hybrid)

Location: Hybrid (Remote with required in-office clinic days)

About Us

We are a busy private general surgery practice committed to providing exceptional patient care through compassionate communication, efficient coordination, and high-quality surgical care. We are seeking an organized, proactive, and detail-oriented Surgical Patient Coordinator to become an integral part of our team.

Position Summary

The Surgical Patient Coordinator serves as the primary administrative liaison for our surgical patients. This individual ensures patients are prepared for surgery by coordinating appointments, obtaining insurance authorizations, communicating with patients, collecting payments, and managing preoperative documentation.

This position is primarily remote but requires in-person attendance on clinic days to assist with patient flow, surgical paperwork, and preoperative documentation.

Responsibilities

Patient Communication

Confirm upcoming clinic appointments
Answer incoming phone calls and patient portal messages
Communicate surgery dates and instructions
Coordinate follow-up appointments

Surgery Coordination

Schedule surgical procedures
Obtain and track prior authorizations
Follow up with insurance companies until approvals are received
Coordinate with hospitals, surgery centers, and referring offices
Ensure all preoperative requirements are completed before surgery

Financial Responsibilities

Verify insurance benefits
Collect copays
Collect deductibles and patient financial responsibility before surgery
Review balances with patients professionally and respectfully

Administrative Responsibilities

Prepare surgical packets
Organize and obtain signed consents
Complete OR paperwork and physician orders
Upload and organize documents in the electronic medical record
Maintain accurate tracking spreadsheets and task lists

Qualifications

Medical office experience (surgical specialty preferred)
Prior authorization experience
Insurance verification experience
Excellent verbal and written communication
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Comfortable working independently from home
Experience with electronic medical records

Competitive hourly pay based on experience with opportunities for performance-based bonuses.
