Medical Billing, Prior Authorization & AI Operations Specialist

Location: San Juan, Puerto Rico (Hybrid/In-Person)

We're looking for an experienced medical billing professional who wants to do more than process claims. We are seeking someone who wants to help design, train, and improve the next generation of AI tools that will transform how healthcare practices operate.

As one of our early team members, you'll work directly with physicians, software engineers, and AI developers to create technology that reduces administrative burden, improves efficiency, and allows providers to spend more time caring for patients.

What You'll Do

As a Medical Billing, Prior Authorization & AI Operations Specialist, you'll serve as both a revenue cycle expert and a key contributor to the development of our AI platform.

Your responsibilities will include:

Review and process medical claims accurately and efficiently.
Manage prior authorizations for medications, diagnostic studies, office procedures, and surgeries.
Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and payer requirements.
Investigate denied or underpaid claims and prepare appeals.
Work directly with physicians and engineers to improve AI-driven billing and authorization workflows.
Validate AI-generated recommendations for accuracy and clinical relevance.
Help train AI models by identifying workflow improvements, payer-specific requirements, and real-world exceptions.
Research insurance policies and translate complex payer rules into scalable automated workflows.
Test new product features and provide feedback before release.
Assist in developing standardized operating procedures and best practices.
Contribute ideas that improve both our technology and the customer experience.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of two to three (2-3) years of experience in medical billing, revenue cycle management, insurance verification, or prior authorizations.
Extensive experience working with Puerto Rico health insurance plans, including:
MCS
Triple-S
First Medical
Plan de Salud Menonita
MMM
Medicare
Medicaid (Vital Plan)
Strong understanding of CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS coding.
Experience managing insurance denials, appeals, and payer communications.
Excellent understanding of revenue cycle management.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a specialty physician practice (ENT, Orthopedics, General Surgery, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Pain Management, or similar).
Experience using electronic health record (EHR/EMR) systems and practice management software.
Interest in healthcare technology, automation, and artificial intelligence.
Experience improving workflows or implementing operational efficiencies.
