Assistant Manager / Manager-in-Training

Moondog HiFi – Brooklyn, NY

Job type: Part-time during an initial two-month training period, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time Manager position

Compensation: $25 per hour during the part-time training period. If promoted to full-time Manager, the starting salary will be $70,000 per year, with additional performance- and revenue-based bonus opportunities.

About Moondog HiFi

Moondog HiFi is a high-fidelity listening bar and cocktail lounge in Brooklyn. We bring together vinyl-only music, carefully curated DJ sets, live bands, elevated street food, and craft cocktails in a thoughtfully designed space built around great sound and hospitality.

We are a small, close-knit team focused on building a genuine community and creating a welcoming neighborhood destination. We are looking for someone who is eager to work, ready to take initiative, and interested in growing with us.

About the Position

The position will begin with a paid, two-month part-time training period. This will give us time to work together, learn each other’s styles, and make sure the role is a strong fit on both sides.

If everything aligns, the goal is for the position to transition into a full-time Manager role with increased responsibilities, a starting salary of $70,000 per year, and opportunities to earn bonuses based on individual performance and business revenue.

This is a hands-on position for someone who can lead a shift, support the team, solve problems, and help us grow the business. We are looking for someone who notices what needs to be done and takes action without waiting to be asked.

Responsibilities

Oversee daily operations and ensure smooth, organized service
Create an excellent and welcoming experience for every guest
Lead and support front-of-house staff while coordinating with the kitchen
Assist with staff scheduling, training, communication, and accountability
Handle opening and closing procedures, cash management, and POS reporting
Manage inventory, ordering, cost control, and vendor relationships
Maintain cleanliness, food-safety standards, and compliance with NYC and New York State regulations
Resolve guest, staff, equipment, and operational issues calmly and efficiently
Coordinate with DJs, live bands, promoters, and event organizers
Work closely with ownership on events, programming, and strategic initiatives
Identify opportunities to upsell, increase revenue, and improve the guest experience
Help generate additional traffic through events, partnerships, marketing, and community outreach
Protect and strengthen Moondog HiFi’s atmosphere, identity, and culture

Qualifications

At least two years of supervisory or management experience in a bar, restaurant, or hospitality environment
Strong knowledge of food handling, safety, and sanitation
Current NYC Food Protection Certificate or willingness to obtain one promptly
Strong leadership and communication skills
Ability to motivate and support a small team
Excellent problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach
Comfortable taking initiative and working independently
Experience with POS systems, inventory, cost control, and operational organization
Ability to remain calm and make good decisions in a busy environment
Reliable, organized, and committed
Available to work evenings, late nights, weekends, and holidays as needed

A Major Plus

A genuine appreciation for music, hi-fi sound, and vinyl culture
Experience working with DJs, live bands, promoters, or nightlife programming
A background in marketing, social media, events, or community building
Experience developing partnerships and bringing new guests into a venue
Creative ideas for increasing sales, repeat business, and overall traffic
