Full Job Description

Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf is seeking an enthusiastic, organized, and relationship-driven Special Assistant for Outreach & Strategic Engagement to support the school’s outreach initiatives and strengthen connections with families, school districts, community organizations, and service providers.

Reporting directly to the Superintendent, this position plays a key role in increasing awareness of the school’s programs and services, expanding community partnerships, supporting enrollment efforts, and promoting early intervention and family-centered services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing children throughout Long Island, New York City, and New York State.

What You’ll Do

Community Outreach & Partnership Development

Assist in implementing the Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf Outreach Program.
Build and maintain relationships with school districts, CSE and CPSE offices, Early Intervention agencies, medical providers, hospitals, audiologists, speech-language providers, parent advocacy groups, community organizations, and government agencies.
Coordinate outreach meetings, presentations, campus tours, and partnership visits.
Maintain outreach databases and stakeholder engagement records.
Assist with follow-up communications and ongoing partnership development.
Prepare outreach updates and reports for the Board of Trustees.

Communications & Community Engagement

Coordinate outreach campaigns to increase awareness of the school’s programs and services.
Develop newsletters, announcements, promotional materials, and community updates.
Create presentations, brochures, informational packets, and other outreach resources.
Ensure all communications reflect the mission, vision, and values of Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf.
Serve as a liaison between the school and community partners.

Social Media & Digital Engagement

Help manage the school’s social media platforms.
Create engaging content highlighting student achievements, programs, events, and community partnerships.
Coordinate with departments to gather stories, photos, videos, and program updates.
Maintain and update the Outreach section of the school’s website.
Monitor engagement metrics and recommend strategies to expand community awareness.
Ensure digital content is accessible, professional, and aligned with the school’s branding.

Events & Program Coordination

Coordinate workshops, webinars, trainings, and community events.
Assist with programs for parents, educators, CSE and CPSE representatives, service providers, medical professionals, and community organizations.
Manage event logistics, registration, communications, materials, and follow-up.
Support the planning and implementation of the Deaf Speaker Sign Series.
Assist with virtual programming and livestream events when appropriate.

Administrative Support

Manage outreach calendars and scheduling.
Prepare meeting agendas and supporting materials.
Maintain organized electronic and physical outreach records.
Track outreach activities, stakeholder engagement, referral sources, and enrollment inquiries.
Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual outreach reports.
Support special projects and initiatives related to community engagement and enrollment development.

Qualifications

Required

Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred in Communications, Public Relations, Education, Human Services, Marketing, Community Engagement, or a related field.
Experience in outreach, communications, customer relations, education, nonprofit organizations, or community engagement.
Excellent organizational and project management skills.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders.
Proficiency with Google Workspace, social media platforms, and website content management systems.
Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.

Preferred

Knowledge of Deaf Culture, Deaf Education, and American Sign Language.
Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).
Experience working with families of children with disabilities.
Experience planning community events, workshops, or training programs.
Familiarity with Early Intervention services, CSE and CPSE processes, school districts, and community-based organizations.
