Full Job Description

Lawson Huck Gonzalez, PLLC is seeking an organized, detail-oriented Legal Billing & Collections Assistant to support the firm’s billing and accounts receivable functions. This position will work closely with firm administration and attorneys to keep billing moving efficiently from prebill through collection.

The ideal candidate is responsive, dependable, and comfortable taking direction and following matters through to completion. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys keeping processes organized and following up on outstanding items.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Assist with the preparation, review, editing, and processing of client invoices.
Distribute prebills to attorneys and follow up to ensure timely review and return.
Make billing edits and adjustments as directed, including changes to time entries, expenses, rates, discounts, and other invoice details.
Finalize and distribute invoices in accordance with attorney and client billing requirements.
Track the status of bills throughout the billing process and proactively follow up on outstanding items.
Monitor accounts receivable and prepare reports identifying outstanding client balances.
Assist with collection efforts, including coordinating follow-up with attorneys and communicating with clients regarding outstanding invoices as directed.
Research and help resolve billing discrepancies and questions.
Work closely with attorneys, legal assistants, and firm administration to obtain information needed to complete billing.
Maintain accurate client and matter billing information within the firm’s systems.
Identify items requiring attention and provide regular status updates rather than waiting for follow-up.
Perform additional billing, accounts receivable, and administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Prior legal billing, accounting, accounts receivable, or law firm experience preferred.
Experience with Clio is a plus.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
Excellent organizational and follow-through skills.
Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously.
Comfortable following established procedures and taking direction while also working independently.
Professional and confident communicating with attorneys, staff, and clients.
Ability to handle confidential financial and client information with discretion.
Persistent and tactful when following up on outstanding billing and collection items.
Dependable, responsive, and willing to take ownership of assigned tasks through completion.

Pay: Up to $60,000.00 per year
