Reporting Relationship: Reports to Director of Revenue Cycle
Primary Accountability:
The Patient Registration Clerk is responsible for performing a range of registration tasks for patients.
Major Duties:
- Provides exceptional internal and external customer service.
- Completes all patient registrations. Tasks include, but are not limited to: entering all demographics and insurance information correctly, completing the Medicare Secondary Payer questionnaire if applicable, and notifying the department the patient has completed their registration.
- Assists with emergency department registrations at bedside.
- Refers to the patient financial counselor or assisting patients who need financial options, completing the charity care questionnaire if applicable.
- Checks pre-admission list daily for admit/discharge dates and verifies that consent has been obtained.
- Checks inpatient census daily and verifies that registration is complete and accurate and consent has been obtained.
- Consults with staff in other departments to obtain information needed for proper registration.
- Assists patients to proper area for treatment or testing as necessary.
- Understands compliance issues around patient confidentiality, HIPAA, Medicare and Medicaid rules and regulations, and GCMC rules and regulations.
- Operates phone and paging system and transfers calls to proper location within facility.
- Receives incoming calls in a courteous, professional, and helpful manner.
- Ensures work area is clean and patient information is properly stored before leaving the work area.
- Is available and willing to cross train for additional job duties as needed.
Professionalism:
- Maintains compliance standards and accuracy.
- Follows Gove County Medical Center HR policies for timekeeping, attendance, and all other policies.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Public relations work.
Preferred:
- Medical office experience.
Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

HIPAA: This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position at Gove County Medical Center based on the following criteria:
Primary – required (routine) to do the job;
Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and

Financial Information/Insurance (information related to insurance, billing and payment): Billing Information, Payer Name, Payer ID, Account Balances, Plan Elements Covered, Payment Information, Payment Rates
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
- Normal eyesight, with or without corrective lenses.
- Normal hearing, with or without hearing aids.
- Must be able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with patients, residents and personnel.
- The ability to bend, stoop, crawl, and kneel.
- The ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently. Requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls.
