JOB SUMMARY
Assume responsibility for District Custodial Services, including leadership, staffing, supervision, evaluation, training, budgeting, planning, and coordination of custodial operations and related operational services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
- Preferred - Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university in an applicable field.
- Experience:
- Required - Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in facilities, maintenance, or custodial operations, with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience.
- Language:
- Required - English

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide districtwide leadership for custodial and operational services; establish appropriate performance goals, communicate expectations, anticipate problems, and develop practical solutions that support District goals.
- Structure work schedules and assign or reassign operational personnel, including managing absences, leaves, vacation schedules, substitute coverage, staffing needs, and the Relief Head Custodian program.
- Direct daily custodial operations across all shifts; perform on-site inspections, investigate and resolve operational problems and emergencies, and take corrective action as needed.
- Specify, requisition, procure, and authorize distribution of operational supplies, tools, parts, and equipment; prepare specifications and administer contracted operational services.
- Manage and coordinate districtwide custodial programs, including summer cleaning, recycling, operational service worker assignments, and responsibilities related to District security and fire alarm systems.
- Lead personnel administration for custodial and operational staff, including selection, assignment, reassignment, orientation, training, job classifications, leave recommendations, disciplinary documentation, grievances, and complaints.
- Supervise and evaluate custodial and operational personnel; conduct performance conferences, provide coaching and corrective feedback, review evaluation documents, and make recommendations regarding continued employment.
- Recommend, manage, and monitor the Operational Services budget and related accounts; maintain cost controls, participate in District budget processes as assigned, and implement corrective measures needed to remain within established budgets.
- Support maintenance services by coordinating emergency work calls, seasonal employee assignments, property-damage investigations, and assigned new-construction or maintenance-project planning, specifications, estimates, and inspections.
- Analyze long-range operational needs; participate in the development and implementation of operational work rules, procedures, and related Board policies; oversee required records and reports; and test and evaluate custodial materials, equipment, and practices for operational improvement and cost reduction.

- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of custodial operations and duties, be conversant in, and possess some working skill in performing minor maintenance and boiler operations.

- Ability to organize and maintain simultaneous progress in a considerable variety of detailed operations involving many different people and processes.

- Ability to provide clear and consistent direction, supervision, coaching, and corrective feedback to custodial and operational staff.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and adjust staffing, work schedules, substitute coverage, and districtwide custodial programs in response to changing operational needs.
- Knowledge and ability to manage operational budgets, control costs, procure supplies and equipment, and administer contracted services.
- Ability to analyze needs, evaluate materials and equipment, develop training, and maintain current professional knowledge through continuing education.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time; occasionally required to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; consistently and repetitively operates a computer and other office machinery such as calculator, copy machine and/or computer printer; regularly required to communicate and exchange accurate information with administration, staff, and the public. Occasionally be required to lift up to 20 pounds unassisted.
