Description of Work
DNCR Human Resources is seeking an enthusiastic Circulation Assistant to join our team! The Circulation Assistant supports the mission of the Library of North Carolina’s Accessible Books and Library Services by providing services to North Carolinians who cannot read standard print due to a visual or physical disability. Through circulating audio, print and other mediums to patrons, this position enables our patrons to receive materials in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Work successfully as part of a team to support circulation and maintenance of library materials.
- Use the library’s integrated library system (ILS), KLAS, daily to enter data accurately for check-in, check-out, and adding/removing materials in collections database.
- Daily physical work to circulate and repair library materials such as braille books, large print books, and digital cartridges. .
- Safely operate a 2.5-ton delivery truck to deliver library mail.
- Communicate with patrons via telephone as part of an ongoing Overdue Notices process.

Recruitment Range: $31,200-$40,005

Position/Physical Requirements
Typical work schedule is Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm.
This position is deemed eligible for hybrid telework under DNCR’s Telework Policy.
Valid NC Driver License is required.
Demonstrated ability to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Requires close visual acuity to view labels on library materials, mailing labels, and computer screens.

Division Description
The Library of North Carolina is a Division of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources (DNCR) and includes four Sections. These Sections are the Accessible Books and Library Services (ABLS), Government and Heritage Library (GHL), Library Development (LD), and Administration. ABLS provides physical and digital materials, programs, and services to North Carolina residents who cannot use standard print materials due to visual, physical, or reading disabilities. GHL is a hybrid library that is the permanent repository for state government publications, and collects and provides information about North Carolina government, history, culture, people, and environment. LD provides services to libraries across North Carolina, including the administration of state and federal grants, continuing education, a library catalog and resource sharing consortia, certification for public librarians, and statewide library programs and services. Administration includes Division leadership, administrative support, budget, a human resources liaison, and the communications team.

Veteran’s and National Guard Preference
Applicants seeking Veteran’s Preference must attach a DD Form 214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, along with the state application.
Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach an NGB 23A (RPAS), along with the state application if they are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.
