About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Legal Assistant with at least one (1) year of law firm or legal experience to join our growing team. This is a generalist role ideal for someone who enjoys variety, takes initiative, and wants to play an important role in supporting attorneys, clients, and Firm operations.
The Legal Assistant will support matters across multiple practice areas, including business law, estate planning, probate, and intellectual property. No two days are exactly alike. Responsibilities will include assisting with client communication, matter organization, document preparation, scheduling, filings, and administrative support throughout the lifecycle of a client matter.
The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, resourceful, and committed to providing excellent service. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism, confidentiality, effective communication, the ability to manage deadlines, and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
This is a part-time opportunity requiring 20 hours per week with on-site work in our Cary, NC office three days per week. Applicants should reside within a reasonable commuting distance of the Triangle area.

Compensation
$18-$22 per hour, depending on experience
Primary Responsibilities
While responsibilities may vary based on the Firm’s needs, the Legal Assistant will primarily be responsible for:
Client Service & Communication
- Serve as a professional and responsive point of contact for prospective and current clients.
- Assist with prospective client intake by gathering information, documenting details, and ensuring accurate records.
- Coordinate client consultations, meetings, and appointments.
- Communicate professionally with clients, attorneys, courts, agencies, and third parties while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Administrative & Matter Support
- Provide administrative support to attorneys and paralegals across multiple practice areas.
- Assist with preparing, formatting, proofreading, organizing, and maintaining legal documents and correspondence.
- Maintain accurate electronic and physical client files in accordance with Firm procedures.
- Assist with document organization and drafting, filing, scanning, and record management.
- Support attorneys and team members with administrative tasks related to client matters and Firm operations.
Scheduling & Firm Operations
- Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, and assist with coordinating deadlines and follow-up items.
- Assist with tracking important dates, client communications, and administrative tasks to support efficient matter management.
- Process incoming and outgoing correspondence, including mail and electronic communications.
- Maintain accurate time entries and complete administrative tasks in accordance with Firm policies.
Team Collaboration & Technology
- Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and Firm staff to support efficient operations and high-quality client service.
- Utilize case management software, Microsoft Office, and other Firm technology to complete tasks efficiently.
- Prioritize multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing needs in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required. An associate degree, paralegal certificate, or equivalent legal administrative training is preferred.
- At least one (1) year of experience working in a law firm or legal setting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness and enthusiasm to support multiple practice areas and embrace a variety of responsibilities within a growing law firm.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential client information.
- Strong client service skills with the ability to communicate with empathy, professionalism, and responsiveness.
- Reliable, adaptable, and able to take initiative while managing changing priorities.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively as part of a small team.
- Ability to learn new software, legal procedures, and practice areas quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with one or more of the following:
- Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
- Adobe Acrobat
- MyCase (or similar practice management software)
- DocuSign
- USPTO TEAS
- North Carolina eCourts
Experience supporting one or more of the following practice areas is preferred:
- Business Law
- Estate Planning
- Estate Administration
- Intellectual Property (Trademarks)
