Full Job Description

Urban Ministries of Durham (UMD) is seeking a Reception Services Associate (RSA) who serves as the first point of contact for clients, donors, volunteers, and visitors. The RSA offers friendly customer service and fosters a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The RSA also handles the majority of administrative and clerical tasks that support UMD's community engagement efforts.

Over 6,000 homeless and impoverished people receive services from Urban Ministries each year. Each day, 300-400 people with diverse levels of complex needs come to UMD seeking assistance. As a result, the UMD campus is a very busy place where stress and trauma must be managed daily, yet where compassion and support for one another are abundant. In addition to clients served, nearly 6000 volunteers, donors, and staff members from partnering agencies also come to UMD to participate in the agency's life.

Part-time, hourly wage. Position does not include benefits or paid days off.

Weekly schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 3p-6p, Tuesday, Thursday 2p-6p, and occasional weekend as needed.

Work will be done at Urban Ministries of Durham in the Resource Building

Qualifications and Skills

Committed to the highest standards of service and professionalism and to UMD’s core values of respect, accountability, and collaboration.
100% dependable/reliable.
Excellent interpersonal skills; highly skilled in greeting visitors and appropriately directing them. Hands-on experience in giving information to visitors and answering their questions.
Excellent attention to detail.
Fluent with Microsoft Office software and online tools, including Gmail.
Highly organized, including the ability to prioritize and maintain a neat and orderly work area.
Able to deal with frequent changes and unexpected events, including problem-solving.
Proficient with English grammar and punctuation suitable for business correspondence and professional verbal communication.
Spanish language skills are desirable but not required.

Key Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

Provide welcome and resource assistance to those coming to UMD for aid.
Receive and help visitors to UMD.
Answer phones on rollover from the shelter front desk and direct phone calls to appropriate staff or take messages.
Manage donations while on duty.
Maintain a professional atmosphere in the lobby.
Maintain community resource sheets with updated information.
Data entry sheets for In-kind donations, kitchen donations, and bread pick-ups.
Welcome meal groups and work with each group to ensure each person signs in on the Volunteer Sign-In Form.
Prepare Community Kitchen Volunteer Sign-in Sheets for each group.
Direct clients, donors, volunteers and other guests to appropriate location for events and meetings.
Prepare and distribute the Daily In-Kind Donation Log to the appropriate staff.
Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Community Engagement.

Working Conditions:

Lobby/reception with public restrooms to serve an underserved population often challenged with poverty and/or homelessness.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma
Non-profit experience is a plus
Ability to work as part of a team
Reliable Transportation
Background check will be completed
Able to commit to the schedule: Monday, Wednesday 3 p.m.-6 p.m., Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 2 p.m.-6 p.m.

Pay: $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
