Full Job Description

AK Material Handling Workspace is looking for an Inside Sales Specialist to join our team.

If you have experience in retail sales, customer service, or another customer-facing role and are ready for your next opportunity, this could be a great fit.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, likes selling, isn't afraid to pick up the phone, and takes pride in finding the right solution for a customer. You don't need experience selling pallet rack or material handling equipment—we'll teach you the products and industry.

This isn't just an order-entry position. You'll learn to understand what customers are trying to accomplish, ask the right questions, recommend products and solutions, prepare quotes, and build lasting customer relationships.

What You'll Do

As an Inside Sales Specialist, you'll work with customers by phone, email, in person, and through our online store.

Your responsibilities will include:

Respond to customer phone calls, emails, online inquiries, and walk-in requests in a timely and professional manner.
Build and maintain relationships with new and existing customers.
Ask questions to understand customer needs and recommend appropriate products and solutions.
Learn pallet rack basics and other material handling products so you can confidently assist customers.
Prepare stock and custom product quotes.
Follow up on quotes and sales opportunities.
Assist customers with product selection, pricing, availability, orders, and order-related questions.
Enter and maintain accurate customer, quote, sales, and order information.
Assist customers purchasing products through our online store.
Quote freight for basic LTL and truckload shipments and provide estimated delivery information.
Work closely with our Warehouse and Accounting teams to make sure customer orders are handled accurately and efficiently.
Resolve customer concerns while following company policies and procedures.
Participate in ongoing product and professional development training.
Help wherever needed as part of a collaborative team.

Have 2+ years of retail sales, customer service, inside sales, or other customer-facing experience.
Genuinely enjoy talking with and helping customers.

Like asking questions and finding solutions rather than simply taking orders.
Can learn technical product information and explain it in an easy-to-understand way.
Understand the importance of following company policies and processes.

Stay organized while managing multiple customers, quotes, orders, and priorities.
Pay close attention to details and accuracy.
Are dependable and have a strong work ethic.
Can work independently while also being a strong team member.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.
2+ years of retail sales, customer service, inside sales, or similar customer-facing experience.
Comfortable working with computers and learning new software.

Preferred Qualifications

These are a plus, but aren't required:

Previous retail sales or inside sales experience.
Experience working toward sales goals or performance incentives.
B2B sales experience.
Distribution, warehouse, material handling, building products, or related industry experience.
Familiarity with pallet racking or warehouse equipment.
Experience using Mac computers.

Technology

AK Material Handling Workspace is a 100% Mac-based company.

Previous Mac experience is a plus. You'll use computers throughout the day for customer communication, quoting, order information, and other sales activities. You should be comfortable with email, web-based applications, and learning the systems we use.

What We'll Teach You

You don't need to walk in knowing pallet rack.

We'll help you develop the product and industry knowledge necessary to:

Understand pallet rack basics.
Identify what a customer needs and recommend appropriate products.
Develop material handling and workspace solutions.
Prepare accurate product quotes.
Understand product availability and lead times.
Assist with freight and delivery questions.
Support customers ordering through our online store.
Develop long-term relationships with business customers.

As your knowledge grows, so will your ability to independently manage customer opportunities and become a trusted resource for our customers.

Compensation

$23–$26 per hour, based on experience, plus performance incentives.

We believe strong performance should be rewarded. In addition to your hourly pay, you'll have opportunities to earn performance incentives as you develop your product knowledge, build customer relationships, and contribute to sales results.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is primarily an office-based position in an active workplace environment.

The position requires regular use of computers and standard office equipment and frequent communication with customers and coworkers by phone, email, and in person.

Employees may occasionally need to lift, carry, or move items weighing up to 20 pounds and may occasionally need to stoop, bend, or reach.
