Turn Your Hospitality Experience Into a Career in Business Development
Do you love hospitality, enjoy meeting new people, and naturally find yourself building relationships wherever you go?
You may already have the skills we’re looking for.
The Party Staff, Inc. is looking for a Business Development Representative to help grow and support our client relationships throughout the San Diego market.
We’re not looking for someone who believes good sales means pushing a service on people who don’t need it.
We’re looking for a hospitality-minded people person — someone who enjoys meeting people, learning about their operation, understanding their challenges, and figuring out how we can genuinely help.
Maybe you’ve worked in hotels, catering, restaurants, events, corporate dining, staffing, or another hospitality environment and are ready for the next step in your career.
If you understand hospitality, genuinely enjoy talking to people, and get satisfaction from providing great service and building relationships, we can help you develop the business development side.
Compensation
Base salary range: $55,000 to $65,000, plus commissions based on individual performance and sales production. Expected annual commission range: $5,000 to $12,000. Compensation within these ranges will be determined based on relevant experience, education, qualifications, and internal equity.
Business Development Representatives have the opportunity to build and grow their own book of business and earn ongoing commissions on eligible accounts they develop and manage during their employment.
Commission earnings are uncapped and paid in accordance with the terms of the company’s commission plan.
We’re focused on long-term relationships, not one-time sales. The more you develop your client relationships and grow your book of business, the greater your opportunity to increase your earnings.
What This Role Is Really About
Hospitality businesses constantly deal with changing staffing needs.
A hotel may suddenly need additional banquet servers for a large conference.
A catering company may book several events in the same weekend and need additional cooks, bartenders, and servers.
A corporate dining operation may need reliable culinary professionals to support its kitchen.
An event venue may need a dependable staffing partner they can call throughout the year.
Your job is to get to know these businesses and the people running them.
You’ll learn about their operations, understand their staffing challenges, introduce them to what The Party Staff can provide, and work with our internal team to deliver the right staffing solution.
Sometimes that relationship starts with a phone call or email.
Sometimes it’s stopping by a property and introducing yourself.
Sometimes it’s meeting someone at a hospitality networking event.
And sometimes it’s simply taking great care of an existing client who eventually introduces you to someone else.
What You’ll Do
Build Relationships Throughout San Diego
- Meet hospitality professionals and decision-makers throughout the San Diego market
- Visit hotels, resorts, caterers, event venues, corporate dining operations, universities, private clubs, and other hospitality businesses
- Introduce prospective clients to The Party Staff and the hospitality staffing services we provide
- Build new relationships through phone calls, emails, referrals, networking, industry connections, and in-person outreach
- Attend networking events, hospitality events, trade shows, and other opportunities to represent The Party Staff in the local market
- Conduct client meetings, site visits, and presentations
- Learn about each prospective client’s operation and identify where our staffing services can genuinely provide value
- Maintain consistent follow-up with prospective clients and develop relationships over time
Take Care of Your Clients
For us, landing an account is only the beginning.
You’ll continue managing and developing the relationships you build rather than simply handing them off and moving on to the next prospect.
You’ll:
- Regularly check in with clients
- Learn about upcoming events, business levels, and staffing needs
- Visit client locations and active events
- Follow up after assignments to make sure everything went well
- Gather feedback and communicate it to our staffing and operations teams
- Help resolve service concerns when they arise
- Identify additional ways The Party Staff can support the client
- Look for opportunities to expand relationships into additional departments, properties, venues, or locations
- Collaborate with leadership on pricing, proposals, contracts, and larger business opportunities
As your relationships grow, your book of business grows with you.
Stay Connected to the Service You’re Providing
You won’t sell something and disappear.
Our Business Development Representatives work closely with the staffing and operations teams responsible for delivering the service we promise our clients.
You’ll help ensure we understand exactly what each client needs and that those expectations are clearly communicated.
Depending on business needs, you may also:
- Attend client event check-ins
- Visit active client locations
- Meet field employees working at your accounts
- Assist with on-site quality control
- Communicate upcoming client demand to our staffing and recruiting teams
- Help troubleshoot service issues when plans change
- Participate in occasional after-hours support
Hospitality can be unpredictable. Being willing to jump in, communicate, and help find a solution is an important part of building long-term client relationships.
Who We’re Looking For
You may have spent years working in hospitality and thought:
“I love this industry and working with people, but I’m ready to do something different.”
That’s exactly the type of person we want to meet.
You may come from:
- Hotels or resorts
- Catering or special events
- Restaurants or food & beverage
- Banquets
- Event management
- Hospitality operations
- Corporate dining
- Private clubs
- Venue management
- Staffing or recruiting
You do not need to come from a traditional sales background.
In fact, for this position, hospitality experience and a genuine service mindset can be more valuable than traditional sales experience.
We can teach sales processes and systems.
It’s much harder to teach someone to genuinely enjoy taking care of people.
You’ll Probably Enjoy This Role If You...
- Genuinely enjoy meeting and talking with people
- Understand what great hospitality and service look like
- Build relationships naturally
- Are comfortable introducing yourself to someone you don’t know
- Enjoy learning how different hospitality businesses operate
- Ask questions and listen before recommending a solution
- Follow through when you say you’re going to do something
- Enjoy being out in the community and visiting clients
- Can stay organized while managing multiple relationships and priorities
- Take ownership of problems and work toward solutions
- Enjoy networking and making professional connections
- Want your income to grow as the relationships and business you develop grow
- Prefer relationship-building over high-pressure selling
At its core, we believe good business development is a lot like good hospitality:
Listen to people. Understand what they need. Follow through. Take care of them. Build trust.
The business follows.
