The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District (Shasta College) sits at the northern end of the Sacramento Valley, surrounded by mountains to the north, east, and west. DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Shasta College Dental Hygiene Program is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Clinical Dental Hygiene Instructor to join our dynamic dental hygiene faculty. The successful candidate will provide clinical instruction and supervision to dental hygiene students, ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care and the development of competent, ethical, and professional entry-level dental hygienists.
This position requires an instructor who demonstrates consistency and teaching calibration to maintain alignment with program competencies, clinical evaluation criteria, and institutional goals. The ideal candidate will actively contribute to a collaborative team environment focused on student success, program integrity, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clinical instruction and supervision to dental hygiene students in pre-clinical and clinical settings.

Evaluate student performance consistently and in accordance with established program rubrics and calibration standards.

Maintain calibrated teaching and assessment methods that align with the goals of the Dental Hygiene Program and faculty team.

Participate in faculty calibration sessions to ensure fairness, consistency, and standardization in student evaluation and clinical instruction.

Support the integration of evidence-based practice and critical thinking in clinical education.

Foster teamwork, professionalism, and ethical practice among students and colleagues.

Ensure compliance with all program, institutional, and accreditation standards (e.g., CODA, DHBC, OSHA and HIPPA regulations).

Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and program assessment activities to support ongoing program growth and accreditation.
CLASSIFICATION: Placement on the current Faculty Salary Schedule is commensurate with previous education and experience.

Full-time instructional faculty are contracted to work 175 days per year including 164 days of classroom instruction and 11 days of professional growth and development. Instructors enjoy up to 18 weeks off per year during the summer and winter intercessions. The Fall and Spring semesters each contain 17 weeks of instruction with approximately 82 instructional days. The Fall semester begins in late August and ends in mid-December. The Spring semester begins in mid-January and ends in mid-May. The number of hours worked in any given day during a semester will vary based on course schedules. Typical Duties, Knowledge and Ability
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities designated below are primary to the instructor role.
Classroom Responsibilities:

Meet classes/laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar.
- Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with the official course outline and District guidelines.

For online and hybrid courses, maintain online course components, including asynchronous or synchronous content delivery, as required by the teaching assignment.

For online and hybrid courses, provide regular student-student and student-instructor contact.

During the first week of class, distribute a syllabus for each course to communicate to students the course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements, in accordance with District guidelines on syllabus content.

Provide regular, timely feedback to students; return all graded work in a timely fashion.

Assign final grades for courses as required by District policy, administrative procedures, California Education Code, and Title 5.

Demonstrate respect for student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws.

Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner and with consideration of cost to the student.

Refer students to tutoring and related student services when appropriate.

Supervise students in off-campus activities when participation is expected as part of a course requirement or where such supervision is part of the instructor's load.

Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.

Participate in professional development to remain current in the assigned discipline.

Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.

Experience/Education
Education Required:

Any Bachelor's degree
AND Two years of current clinical dental hygiene professional practice. -
Must possess a current, valid California Dental Hygiene license.

Current CPR (BLS for Healthcare Providers) certification.
