Full Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Supports Purchasing Management with defining specifications and quoting material, process and other service providers with specific characteristic appropriate for use for Howa USA business requirements. Investigates, researches, analyzes, reports, issue purchase orders, tracks and provides competitive benchmarking of material, process and service suppliers, as required. Assists in the resolution of issues that impede Howa USA’s business development in areas of supplier performances and relationships.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prepares RFQ specifications, receives quotes and analyzes quote details with part specifications/drawings. Compares quote with other supplier and provides engineering estimates.

Purchases commodities or goods for testing trials and production trials. Tracks all purchase orders with piece price, packaging and freight costs.

Determines material requirements from the bill of material (BOM) report.

Obtains supplier quotes, negotiates best possible prices and procures quality materials with consistent on-time delivery to meet schedules; expedites purchase orders (if required) and requests, as needed, and communicates the status to all relevant departments.

Consistently updates records related to purchasing costs, timely deliverables, quality and quantity in relationship to inventory requirements; assists to identify, determine and resolve the root cause of non-conforming items with customer and suppliers.

Assists in the development and implementation of material sourcing strategies and price negotiations with suppliers.

Audits new suppliers, performs supplier capacity and reviews supplier Cycle times by visiting supplier locations.

Builds and maintains supplier relations; assists in creating mutually beneficial improvement goals for long-term growth.

Benchmarks products and proposes new supplier material to engineering for VA/VE.

Analyzes logistics and develops logistics’ Millrun plans with suppliers for customer approval.

Develops technical expertise in commodities purchased for program awards; stays abreast of market trends of related product commodity suppliers/competitive business practices of assigned markets, new materials and suppliers in market.

Maintains supplier control list and documents and supports Howa group functions such as Engineering, Program Management, Sales and Manufacturing Plants on cost summary and supplier award status.

Performs other related duties, as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Automotive industry experience.

Well-versed working knowledge of purchasing policies, processes and procedures.

Effective / strong negotiation skills.

Proficient in MS Office (Word, excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.

Excellent interpersonal relations and written/oral communication skills.

Self motivated, persistent, and hands-on results-oriented.

Well organized with the ability to multi-task.

Strong sense of urgency with the ability to take initiative to accomplish goals.

High degree of professionalism and business ethics.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; ability to perform data entries and develop reports.

Basic understanding of Request for Quote (RFQ), customer purchase order and tracking processes.

Excellent written, verbal and organization skills with the ability to pay strict attention to detail.

Regular and predictable attendance required to perform responsibilities above.

EDUCATION & TRAINING:

Associate degree in business or marketing required; Bachelors’ degree in business preferred.
