POSITION SUMMARY
The YMCA of the East Valley is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Under the direction of the Program Director, the Lifeguard II is responsible for supporting YMCA operations through effective delivery of programs, services, and member engagement. This position contributes to the achievement of Association goals by promoting the YMCA mission, values, and strategic priorities while providing high-quality service to members, participants, staff, and the community.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Core Responsibilities

Perform duties in alignment with YMCA mission, policies, procedures, and operational standards.

Deliver high-quality customer/member service to participants, families, staff, volunteers, and community partners.

Support departmental and Association goals through effective communication, teamwork, and accountability.

Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required.

Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and required professional development activities.

Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

Support risk management and safety procedures.

Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to support operational needs.

Perform all other duties as assigned.
Position-Specific Responsibilities
-
Maintains active surveillance of the pool area.
-
Knows and reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six” model; completes related reports as required.

Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area.

Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state health department code
-
Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.

Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
-
Performs chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.

Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.

Attends and participates in all staff meetings and in-service training.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualifications

Certifications: Basic life support or professional rescuer CPR/AED, first aid, and emergency oxygen administration

Current YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent (YMCA Lifeguard needed within 90 days of employment)

Ability to maintain certification-level physical and mental readiness
-
Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with YMCA standards

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees assigned driving responsibilities must:

Possess and maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

Use reliable transportation for Association business.

WORK SCHEDULE
Work schedules may vary based on operational needs and may include mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
