About JMA

JMA Construction is a young, ambitious excavation and civil contractor building teams that build tomorrow. We tackle complex infill and urban projects across Seattle with a solutions-first mindset: deep planning, tight execution, and real partnership with our GCs and developers.

We’re not a corporate dinosaur. No 15 layers of management, no BS. Just a small, driven team that takes collective ownership for results and actually cares about doing it right.

The Role

We’re hiring a Foreman / Field Lead to run crews in the dirt. This is the person who takes the plan from our superintendent and turns it into safe, on-spec, on-schedule work in the field.

You’ll report to our Civil Superintendent and work closely with our Ops team to hit production targets on excavation, utilities, grading, and restoration work.

What You’ll Do

· Lead the crew in the field

Show up early, ready with the plan.
Run a 5–10 minute daily huddle: safety topic, today’s tasks, constraints.
Keep everyone moving and accountable all day.

· Execute the plan

Work the 3‑week lookahead and daily plan from the superintendent.
Coordinate work with other trades and adjust in the field when things change.
Call the super/PM when the plan doesn’t match reality (conflicts, missing info, unsafe).

· Own safety, quality, and housekeeping

Enforce PPE and safety rules at all times.
Verify layout, grades, and details before major installs (pipe, concrete, structures, etc.).
Stop unsafe or obviously off-spec work and reset.
Leave the site clean, organized, and ready for tomorrow at the end of each day.

· Track production & communicate

Know what the daily/weekly production targets are for your crew.
Keep a simple daily record (or feed info to the super): crew on site, work performed/quantities, issues.
Immediately report unexpected conditions (rock, utilities, bad soil, water), equipment breakdowns, and requests that look like extra work.

· Protect the company’s reputation

Take care of tools, trucks, and equipment like they’re your own.
Represent JMA professionally with GCs, inspectors, and neighbors on tight urban sites.

Zero serious safety incidents and strong safety habits on your crew.
Your crew hits daily/weekly production goals 80%+ of the time.
Work passes inspections and internal checks with minimal rework.
Sites you run are the cleanest, best-organized jobs our partners walk onto.

Who You Are

3–5+ years in heavy civil / excavation / utilities, with at least 1–2 years leading a crew.
Can read civil plans, profiles, and details and translate them into field work.
Comfortable running small equipment and working around larger iron safely.
Direct communicator – you don’t disappear when there’s a problem, you raise your hand.
Take pride in your work and your crew; you hate sloppy sites and wasted time.
