Full Job Description

Location: Washington, D.C. / Maryland / Virginia (DMV Area)

Role Type: Full-Time (100% Remote)

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST

Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000 per year

About the Role

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting & Tax Assistant to join our boutique firm. Operating as a "Guardian of Foundational Data Integrity," you will play a crucial role in supporting our Senior Accountant and Senior Tax Assistant. You will work across both our Tax and Outsourced Accounting departments, handling high-volume individual tax preparation, data categorization, and internal tracking to ensure our senior strategists have clean, accurate data to work from.

Core Responsibilities

Individual Tax Preparation: Prepare federal and state tax filings specifically for Individuals (Form 1040).
Local & State Compliance: Assist with multi-state individual filings and local tax compliance tasks.
Outsourced Accounting Support: Assist the Outsourced Accounting (OA) department within QuickBooks Online by meticulously coding and categorizing daily transactions, assisting with basic bank reconciliations, and preparing raw data for monthly closes.
Tax Support & Projections: Support the tax team by preparing tax extensions, calculating estimates, and organizing client source documents (W-2s, 1099s, brokerage statements) for yearly tax projections.
Data Management & Tracking: Maintain internal progress trackers, manage filing schedules, and ensure all client files and workpapers are accurately indexed and prepared for senior review.

Candidate Profile & Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor of Science in Accounting (Required).

Experience:

Firm Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent, hands-on experience working within a professional public accounting or tax firm.
Tax Specialization: Demonstrated experience preparing individual tax returns (1040s) through high-volume spring and fall busy seasons.

Technical Skills:

QuickBooks Online (QBO): Foundational working knowledge of QuickBooks Online is required.
Tax Software: Proficiency in professional tax preparation software (experience with Intuit ProSeries is highly preferred, but experience with CCH Axcess or ProSystem fx is acceptable).
General IT & Organization: Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access, PowerPoint). Must be highly comfortable navigating shared drives, tracking spreadsheets, and learning internal workflows quickly.

Soft Skills

Collaborative & Coachable: A strong team player who is comfortable taking direction from and supporting senior staff and department leadership.
Meticulous Attention to Detail: A proactive approach to identifying discrepancies, verifying computations, and maintaining strict quality control over foundational financial data.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt quickly to changes, learn new software, and switch gears between tax and bookkeeping tasks efficiently.
