The Vintaur Library is looking for a Visual / UI Designer with a passion for wine (and all alcohol) to join our team.
This opportunity will start out as a part-time contract arrangement, but the goal is to transition to a full-time arrangement, after the launch of our first software application in 4th quarter 2026.
All work will be done remotely.
The Organization:
The Vintaur Library is an online Library & Portal devoted to the Nectar of the Gods (Alcohol), in all of its glorious renditions and forms.
While The Vintaur Library is a public library open to all; its main focus is serving the alcohol and hospitality industries, and the incredible people who work within them.
At the Library’s core lies what will be the most comprehensive database of alcohol brands, products, and producers ever created, called the ‘Liquid Registry’. The Registry will also include AI-Powered Librarians, who will introduce a whole new era in product & producer storytelling.
However, the unique, interactive database is just the foundation of an ecosystem of software applications, media channels, professional training, and networking, for the global alcohol & hospitality professional communities. As well as a few surprises geared more towards the personal side of professionals’ drinking lifestyles.
In addition, there is a non-profit foundation associated with the Vintaur Library that will focus on inspiring and training the next generation of alcohol professionals; Including a range of scholarships for alcohol education (sommelier degrees, alcohol-related university degrees, etc..). As well as fundraising for environmental causes (to give back to the earth from which all alcohol is born).
Note: The Vintaur Library is Not a School! Just like any traditional school or university has a (book-based) library that works in conjunction with classes and teachers; The Vintaur Library will work with, and supports, the myriad of alcohol-focused schools and education providers (both digital and physical).
The Job:
As a Visual Designer your main responsibility will be working with our creative director, content providers, and ux design to produce the UI for current Figma “blueprint/wireframe” prototypes; as the last step before being handed off to software engineering for final production.
The foundation of the design for the Library has already been established; So you will have a solid reference set to work from. However, there is still a lot of room to add your creative input.
As well as potential creative involvement in upcoming design efforts for other areas of the Vintaur ecosystem, that will be unique from the Library.
In addition to the UI for the Figma prototypes, there are also opportunities for you to work in other visual design areas including media channels, storytelling production, and marketing.
This role will be a remote position, so your location does not matter. However, we work on an East Coast (EST) time zone; so you will need to be able to work within this time zone, and corresponding video meetings, on a regular basis; if you are going to progress to a full time position with us.
It will be part-time to start. And we will remain flexible in regards to other work requirements in the beginning, until hopefully it can transition into a more permanent & full-time arrangement.
A strong foundation in Figma prototyping software, and UI Design for Desktop & Mobile Applications, is required.
Design Philosophy:
With The Vintaur Library’s main users being professionals working in the alcohol and hospitality industries, the design ‘demeanor’ is also professional. However, it is still a Library devoted to Alcohol. And the main purpose of Alcohol is to provide the world with sensory pleasure & human connections.
And while we hope our professional services will become invaluable to those noble souls working with the bottle; our storytelling capabilities are just as important.
Consequently, our approach to design is neither corporate, nor bland in flavor.
We still strive to make our UX design clear and easy to navigate, but our UI design does not comply with the minimalist and “modern” interface design approach of most software.
Alcohol is ‘complex & fluid’, not ‘simple & rigid’…and so is our design (and designers).
Your Liquid Passion:
While great designers should be able to adapt to any type of design project, we believe the Best designers have a personal connection to the subject matter they are working on.
Consequently, we are looking for a designer who has a true passion & appreciation for all alcohol (wine, spirits, beer, sake, etc…), and how it intertwines in our lives, culture, and commerce throughout the history of human civilization; even if your personal drinking preferences tend to be more focused on just one type (e.g. wine).
You do not need to have a lot of alcohol knowledge, nor completed any formal alcohol education. But, you should have a true interest in the ‘Nectar of the Gods’; And a desire to explore, learn, and taste everything liquid that this world has to offer!
Any experience working with alcohol in a restaurant, retail, or trade environment, will be helpful. Whether this experience is within design or “working on the floor” in a non-design capacity. If your resume does not reflect this experience, make sure you include it in a cover letter.
Compensation:
The starting compensation will be $25-$35 per hour, based on experience, capabilities, and future potential with us.
We recognize that this is on the lower end of the compensation scale for a Visual Designer; but unfortunately, we are constrained by our pre-launch budget.
However, we are finally in the last mile to launch the first part of the Library towards the end of year! And after speaking with us, we are optimistic that you will appreciate both the incredible potential of what we are creating, as well as how quickly our model can scale after launch.
So it shouldn’t be long before we are in a position to discuss a different compensation package for a longer term arrangement, including employee profit sharing / equity.
Apply:
Please send us your resume and any links to your portfolio, website, or Behance profiles.
If you want, you can also include a short cover letter explaining why you are a good pairing with The Vintaur Library.
We can’t wait to meet you and share a glass (even if it’s virtually)!
Cheers,
The Vintaur Library
