Commercial PV Designer
Remote | Full-Time | Competitive Salary + Performance Bonus
About Barun Corp
Barun Corp is a solar and energy storage design, engineering, and consulting firm supporting commercial, industrial, and utility-scale projects nationwide. We also maintain a residential portfolio. Our clients rely on us for accurate, code-compliant deliverables and responsive technical communication.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a Commercial PV Designer to support the design and execution of our commercial and industrial (C&I) solar projects. This role is focused on producing high-quality, accurate design deliverables and contributing to the overall consistency and performance of our design team.
Our goal is clear: maintain a consistent 9/10 standard across all C&I designs. This requires someone detail-oriented, reliable, and committed to continuous improvement—someone who takes pride in delivering precise, well-coordinated work.
In this role, you will be responsible for creating and refining design packages, identifying gaps in drawings, and ensuring alignment with project requirements, codes, and best practices. You will collaborate closely with internal teams to support efficient project execution and timely delivery.
We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of structural considerations and detailing as it relates to commercial solar design, along with solid technical and drafting capabilities.
Strong communication skills are important, as you may participate in internal coordination meetings and occasionally support technical discussions with clients by explaining design decisions, feasibility, and system layout.
This is a remote, fast-paced position where collaboration, accountability, and attention to detail are essential. Our team takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality designs within deadlines, and we are looking for someone who shares that standard.
What You’ll Do
- Develop commercial PV system designs, including layouts, permit sets, and construction drawings
- Produce design packages at key project stages (30% interconnection, 60% permit, and 90% construction)
- Create and review structural details related to racking, mounting systems, and solar canopies
- Coordinate with structural and electrical engineers to ensure designs are code-compliant, optimized, and buildable
- Support EV charging and related infrastructure design efforts as needed
- Maintain high design quality while meeting deadlines, including during high-volume periods
- Contribute to team development by sharing knowledge and supporting junior designers when applicable
What We’re Looking For
Technical Requirements:
- 3-5+ years of hands-on experience in commercial solar PV and energy storage system design
- Demonstrated ability to independently produce 30/60/90% C&I PV plan sets
- Strong command of NEC code and real-world design application
- Experience with commercial and utility-scale projects across multiple states
- Familiarity with multi-jurisdictional permitting and AHJ coordination
- Working knowledge of solar design platforms (Aurora, Helioscope, or equivalent)
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit or Civil 3D a plus)
- Strong attention to quality, deadlines, and teamwork
Communication:
- Proven ability to improve team quality, not just individual performance
- Fluent English speaker with the ability to lead client-facing technical discussions
- Ability to identify patterns in errors and implement structured solutions
- Experience working with distributed or remote teams preferred
Tools & Systems:
- Comfortable with CRM and project tracking tools
- Experience building or improving design templates, checklists, and workflows
What This Role Is NOT
- Not a drafter
- Not a coordinator
- Not someone who just attends meetings
- Not someone who cleans up other people’s mistakes after the fact
This is: ownership + enforcement + elevation.
What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)
- Ramp quickly on our design standards, tools, workflows, becoming fully productive within the first few weeks
- Consistently deliver high quality C&I PV designs that meet our 9/10 quality standards with minimal rework
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail by identifying and resolving gaps or inconsistencies in drawings before review
- Effectively coordinate with internal teams (engineering, project management) to keep projects moving forward
- Manage deadlines reliably, including handling multiple projects and adapting to shifting priorities
- Show a clear understanding of structural and electrical considerations in commercial PV design
- Begin contributing to team efficiency by improving workflows, templates, or documentation where applicable
How Success Is Measured
- Basic design errors reduced to near zero
- Significant increase in first-pass QA approvals
- Reduction in PE review comments and rework cycles
- Improved consistency across drawings, calculations, and assumptions
- Reduction in client feedback related to design quality
- Decreased dependency on QA to catch preventable issues
Mindset
You take ownership of outcomes, not just tasks. You care about correctness and consistency. You are comfortable setting a high bar and holding others to it. You don’t wait for problems to surface—you build systems that prevent them.
You are equally comfortable improving internal team performance and representing the company in front of clients.
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience and location
- Performance-based bonus tied to individual contribution and company success
- Dental and vision coverage (if applicable)
- Retirement plan with matching contributions (if applicable)
- Remote

- A specific example where you identified and fixed recurring design errors or improved team quality
- How you would approach raising a team’s design quality to a minimum of 9/10
In addition, please include a sample of your work (redacted if necessary). This may be a C&I PV plan set, design package, or similar deliverable that reflects your role and level of involvement.
Application Question(s):
- What steps do you take before submitting your work for review?
- Can you walk me through the type of solar design projects you have worked on and your direct role in them?
