Full Job Description

Create short-form videos, social posts, and simple explainers that help Modern Action reach more people.

Modern Action is hiring a Video Social Content Creator to help grow our audience across Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, X, LinkedIn, and other social channels.

This is a content creation and social growth role.

You will create short-form videos, write social posts, test new formats, study performance, and help us learn which topics, hooks, and formats help Modern Action reach more people.

Short-form video is a major part of the role. You should be comfortable creating Reels, TikToks, Shorts, voiceovers, screen-recorded explainers, trend-based videos, and fast reactions to current events.

The role also includes written social posts, content repurposing, simple graphics or carousels, and testing hooks, formats, and posting styles.

We are still learning what works on each channel. Part of the job is to suggest ideas, test formats, study what works, and help Modern Action make content people understand, share, and act on.

You do not need to be a policy expert. You do need to be curious, fast, creative, accurate, and willing to learn.

What You'll Do

Create short-form videos for Instagram Reels, TikTok, and YouTube Shorts.
Write hooks, scripts, captions, posts, and social copy.
Film, edit, or produce short-form video content.
Help grow Modern Action on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, X, LinkedIn, and other channels.
Turn current events, legislation, and civic issues into content people can understand and engage with.
Repurpose newsletters, blog posts, platform pages, and campaigns into social content.
Create simple graphics, carousels, clips, or explainers when useful.
Spot trends, actionable news, and content opportunities.
Suggest and test new content ideas.
Track performance and improve based on views, watch time, shares, saves, comments, follows, signups, and site traffic.
Work directly with the founder to decide what to test, what to improve, and what to double down on.

This is a high-output role. We are looking for someone comfortable moving quickly, testing often, and learning from performance data.

Over time, we want to build a consistent social presence across multiple platforms, especially short-form video.

You have opinions about what works online and why.
You are not precious about ideas. If something does not work, you move on and try the next thing.
You care about making civic information more understandable and useful.

Experience matters, but we are open. If you are early but clearly sharp, hungry, creative, and good at learning, we want to hear from you.

Must-Haves

Some proof that you understand short-form content.
Willingness and ability to create short-form video.
Ability to create content quickly.
Strong sense of hooks, pacing, trends, and retention.
Strong writing skills.
Willingness to learn civic, political, and legislative topics.
Comfort using tools like CapCut, TikTok editor, Instagram editor, Premiere, Descript, Canva, or similar.
Ability to work remotely and communicate clearly.

Nice to Have

Experience growing a TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, X, LinkedIn, or creator account.
Experience making educational, news, politics, history, finance, law, or explainer content.
On-camera comfort.
Basic graphic or design skills.
Familiarity with Congress, elections, policy, or civic issues.
Experience reading analytics and improving content based on performance.
Experience repurposing long-form content into short-form social posts.

Success in this role means Modern Action's social audience is growing and our content is getting sharper over time.

This role is for someone who wants to help figure out what Modern Action should become on social, not just execute a fixed list of posts.
