Full Job Description

Cardiac Monitoring Technician

Job Role & Responsibilities

1. Continuous Cardiac Rhythm Monitoring

Perform real-time and retrospective monitoring of cardiac telemetry, Holter monitors, and ambulatory ECG devices
Observe heart rhythms for abnormalities including:
Atrial fibrillation/flutter
Bradycardia and tachycardia
PACs, PVCs, ventricular arrhythmias
Pauses and heart blocks
Recognize life-threatening arrhythmias and respond per established protocols

2. Event Detection & Escalation

Identify, document, and immediately report critical rhythm changes to customers and or physicians
Follow escalation procedures for emergent findings (e.g., VT, VF, asystole)
Communicate clearly and accurately during urgent situations

3. ECG Interpretation & Documentation

Accurately interpret ECG waveforms and rhythm strips
Measure and document:
Heart rate
PR, QRS, QT intervals
Rhythm changes and event timing
Maintain detailed and accurate monitoring logs and reports

4. Equipment Setup & Troubleshooting

Ensure proper lead placement and signal quality
Troubleshoot artifacts, lead failures, and equipment malfunctions

5. Patient Interaction & Education

Explain monitoring procedures to patients in clear, age-appropriate language
Instruct patients on activity restrictions and device care when applicable
Respond professionally to patient questions and concerns

6. Compliance & Safety

Adhere to hospital policies, AHA guidelines, and accreditation standards
Maintain HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality
Follow safety, infection control, and documentation protocols

7. Collaboration & Team Support

Work closely with nurses, physicians, and cardiology staff
Participate in shift handoffs and interdisciplinary communication
Support unit workflow and patient safety initiatives

8. Quality Assurance & Professional Development

Participate in quality improvement activities and competency assessments
Maintain required certifications (e.g., CCT)
Stay current on best practices in cardiac monitoring technology

Required Skills & Qualifications

Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology
Proficiency in ECG rhythm interpretation
Attention to detail and ability to respond under pressure
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a healthcare team

Hospitals (ICU, telemetry units)
Cardiac monitoring centers
Ambulatory and diagnostic facilities
Remote/central monitoring units

Reporting Structure

Reports to: Clinical Supervisor

Pay: $21.00 - $28.00 per hour
