Position Summary
HomeFree-USA is seeking a highly organized and persuasive writer to fulfill the Grants & Development Associate role. This is a growth-oriented position designed for someone who wants to become an exceptional grant writer, fundraiser, and nonprofit professional. You will play a critical role in securing and managing philanthropic, corporate, and foundation funding that advances HomeFree-USA's mission.
You will assist with grant writing and lead grant management activities, maintain funding and impact data within Salesforce, monitor program outcomes, prepare reports for funders, and support the cultivation of new corporate and foundation partnerships through proposal development and prospect research.
This position is ideal for an early-to-mid career nonprofit professional looking to expand their grant writing, proposal development, and nonprofit fundraising expertise. You’ll work closely with the Director of Development, who provides guidance, mentorship, and final review of major funding submissions.
If you’re a strong writer who enjoys strategic fundraising, operational excellence, and a fun/uplifting work environment, please feel empowered to apply. The candidate will report to the Director of Development and should be comfortable operating in a professional environment that occasionally communicates through memes and gifs.
Why Join Our Team?
- Your work will be seen. This is not a role where your proposals disappear into layers of management. You'll work directly with senior leadership and see the impact of your efforts.
- You'll learn fundraising beyond grants. Exposure to corporate partnerships, sponsorships, foundation fundraising, and nonprofit strategy.
- Flexibility Matters. Work from wherever you are, provided you're available during Eastern Time business hours.
- Professional growth is expected. We actively invest in helping team members build skills, take on new responsibilities, and advance their careers.
- We have a sense of humor. We take our mission seriously, but know when to unwind. Memes, gifs, and laughter are welcome.
- National impact with a small-team feel. HomeFree-USA supports communities across the country while maintaining the accessibility and collaboration of a smaller organization.
- Direct access to leadership. You won't spend years waiting for a seat at the table.
- Room to grow. As HomeFree-USA expands, we prefer to create opportunities for existing staff before looking externally.
- We value ideas, not titles. Good ideas can come from anyone on the team.
- We hire for potential, not perfection. If you're a strong writer, curious, organized, and eager to learn, we'd rather train the right person than hold out for a unicorn.
